Serpentine Belt Replacement

Has anyone replaced the serpentine belt on the rear of the engine?
Can it be done with the engine in place?
What is involved?

Just got a price on it...$89.....for a belt.

Are you changing because the original is prematurely worn or as a preventative measure? I'm running 24K on the original. If it is not too difficult, I'll change mine as well.
