Bent/Broken front lower control arms

So I took my car into the dealer for an oil change and yearly service. Two hours later, I get a call from the service manager. He says:

"Good thing you brought in the car. Both your front lower control arms are broken. Could've been from incorrect towing procedures...or someone trying to steal the car."

Now this car hasn't been towed since I've owned it. The car drove perfectly fine and I hadn't noticed any change in stability. I last brought them the car 2 years ago when I took delivery of the car to get serviced. They said they would've noticed this back then if it were like this from the start. I daily drive the car, but it goes from garage to garage. I don't keep my car parked in lots for very long either. I just found it really strange that this amount of damage would go undetected for weeks/months. I've attached the pics they took prior to repair. Does this sound like a reasonable explanation?

Yup looks like tow damage. The arms a intact and you would NOT feel anything wrong until the part fails. I would have them changed ASAP!

i have heard of broken tie rod ends due to incorrect hook up at towing.. but control arms!

sure they didnt drop the car off the lift?

here is the fix - make them adjustable too

Highly suspicious to me, I think you would have noticed it before now.

Only one of the ribs is broken! look close at the pic. It WILL not effect the car until the part finally fails.... That is some one who used metal hooks to put the car on a flatbed. I would also check the rear arms and toe arms.

Towing damage best bet. It takes A LOT of force to do that.

you may want to contact your insurance company for coverage on this. it's not a mechanical failure.

That's exactly what I did. Thankfully, I'm only out my deductible.
