Key hard to remove from ignition lock

Key hard to remove from ignition lock

Guys,

Today my key became hard to remove from the ignition lock, I presume it needs lubricating. Has anyone else had this problem?

+1 Get it repaired ASAP. The next step in the failure process is a lot less convenient to deal with.

Search a bit, and you will find that it's a VW part number that you can buy for $7 at NAPA, as opposed to exact same part (number and all) from Porsche for $40.

Ignition switch dying like everyone else has said.

I found the Audi part at NAPA (by far cheaper than the stealers). Simple replace job, just do a search

I had my ignition switch go bad.
Started as key being hard to pull out and turn, then after a while I could hardly get the key out.
Had to replace the ignition switch, did it at the dealer it wasn't cheap for me, I'd have to check how much it was.

Use the vw part, it's cheap but a pain to change as its under the dash. But worth the effort.

If somebody could give me the part number it would be appreciated. I thought it would be a dealer job as it would require coding? Does changing the ignition switch not mean that you need to change your keys?

Not sure about the programming.

There is a DIY on renntech with photos. It takes 1-1.5 hours. The switch we are talking about is attached to the back side of the lock cylinder itself. You don't need to reprogram anything - you just have to extract the electrical connector. I checked my records - the VW part was $9.17 at NAPA. What I did was to get the part out (to be sure I could!) then take it to NAPA. Had to wait one day for the part to come from a bigger town.

You need to take out the a/c vent on the far left of the dash. That gives you access. The hardest part will be loosening the two screws that hold it in - they are given a dab of red wax to make sure they don't back out. There's not much room to work. I have a mini socket set that has a ratchet wheel that I used to hold a small screwdriver head. You get to one of those screws through the hole for the a/c vent. The other one you have to get from below. If the door sill is digging into your back on the right side, the seat is digging into your back on the left side, and the clutch pedal is stuck in your ear, that's the perfect position.

may want to spray a little wd40 to see if that helps before you go through the replacement.

I used the genuine Audi Part. The Audi number is 4A0-905-849-B. It cost me US$28 this past July. Fit perfectly.

graffiti lock lube , but don't wait til it fails happened-to my on my 08 hhr(work car) had to have it towed repair was about $300.00 to $500.00 chevy are more costly than Porsche's

I've ordered the lock, just have to wait for it to arrive. I'll see if I can find a DIY for replacing the whole mechanism

I think I'm starting to have this problem. My key kinda sticks after I shut the car off and try and pull it out. Guess it's another DIY to add to my list.
