993 GT2 slave conversion?

ok, i have ready EVERY GT2 slave conversion thread i could find and could not get my answer.

I'm interested in using the 993 GT2 slave conversion option. My question is, what is the part number or is it the same as the rest of the 993 slave cylinders?

Also, will any 993 clutch fork work or does it have to be from a 993 TT or GT2?

I like the simplicity of this option and can do the drilling a tapping while i'm doing the clutch upgrade.

I believe the slave is the same on all 993's, but I am not certain.

The fork is different than the 996 - it's a mirror reverse of what's in your 996 now. Again, I believe it's the same for all 993's, but I am not certain.

I had this conversion done many years ago and it was done by a tech that sourced all the parts himself, so I am not familiar with the details other than he said he used 993 GT2 parts...

Here is a picture of the slave - it looks like all 993 slaves. The 996 fork is lying on the case. 993 fork is installed.

I would like to go this route too when it comes clutch time. I was told that in addition to drilling and tapping you have to have your housing machined. My question is what is the difference between the 996 GT2 slave and the 993? Why use the 993 part? As for the fork, the 993 and GT2 uses a G50 clutch fork that has been used forever. It is an exact mirror of the stock 996TT unit. It just moves the receiver part for the slave shaft to the other side of the transmission seam where the manual slave screws onto.

The GT2 slave is nothing more than a 996 GT2 slave that is normally screwed directly onto the bellhousing but is adapted using a bolt on adapter that uses the 996TT stock slave holes to avoid drilling an tapping.

John, thanks for the pic. Your other posts are what made me want to go this route. From what i see, this may be a little more work but at a much better price. I can get a new 993 slave for $100 and the used fork for $30, that's less than the bracket for the 996 GT2 conversion. I can have a SS braided line made for $30 or less for sure.

You bring up some questions i had. It looks like the 996 GT2 is the same from what i see look at pics. The only question is what the piston diameter is inside, this can determin the pedal pressure.

If anyone knows if the case has to be machined, please let us know.

Yes, the parts required are inexpensive. I do know that we had to have a custom line made up - it was a combination of fittings that was not an "off the shelf" line...

Don't forget you will still need a master cylinder too.

We did not machine the case at all. What were you told has to be machined?

How does a stock 996 GT2 slave mount the transmission? Anyone have pics?

The same as a 964, 993 na or any other g50 transmission with non-assisted clutch. The 993 and 996 gt2 slaves should be interchangeable from amounting perspective. The 996 gt2 was most likely updated for the increased pressure plate release pressure needed.

Ok, that answers that then. A 996 GT2 will fit the 996tt trans with a g50/993 clutch fork. Just drill and tap the existing holes then.
