Water in Cowl - Info

I noticed after a recent wash a lot of standing water in my cowl just adjacent to the battery. In case you were not aware there are a total of three small drains in the cowl, two on the passenger side and one on the drivers side. The first three pictures below are after I removed and cleaned out the rubber grommet drains (which were plugged with junk preventing the water from draining). The last photo is after a grommet is installed. You might want to take off your battery cover and check to see if you have any standing water next time you wash the car or drive through a lot of rain. Access is very easy, just remove the battery cover (2 screws) and plastic panel covers (1 screw per panel) to access the grommets. You'll notice on the passenger side the positive battery cable connection is not far from the drain hole, probably not a good idea to have this area filled with water (first and last pict).

Avoid parking the car under/near trees/plants that shed leaves or blossoms or other plant debris.

Pick off any leaves you see.

Every so often remove the panels and clean the basins out and test the drains flow water by pouring water into each drain.

Also, do not forget the radiator ducts in the front of the car. These cars suck -- air -- and vacuum up all sorts of trash.

Sincerely,

Macster.

The grommets pull right out, some of them are a little difficult to reach. If you find the drains are still plugged try using some low pressure compressed air to blow them out.

Grill screens really cut down the intake of debris.
