Need 6 Disc CD changer to USB or SD Card adapter
My lovely wife recently purchased a 2001 TT for me. It has the PCM1 factory Nav info-tainment head unit w/ cassette and in-trunk 6 CD changer. I need an adapter to plug into the CD changer multi-pin connector that would play MP3's on a USB jump drive and/or SD cards using the in-dash unit to select tunes.
Can this be done, and if so, how?

I have the same nav as you and just installed this last week (http://www.iwirep.com/products/iwirep-220-ipod). I just use an old 3rd gen ipod in the car as it will charge (the newer ipod/iphones require this I think (http://www.iwirep.com/products/iwirep-220-ipod-bundle).
But anyway, it's an easy install, just need to have the nav pulled forward the the plug that goes to the 6disc in the trunk is unplugged and this is plugged in it's place.
Only downside is there is no way to skip tracks from the nav/radio and it would have to be done on the ipod/iphone directly.
That being said for 49 bucks what more do you want. A lot cheaper than a new aftermarket nav system.

Thanks for the reply.
That solution won't work for me as I don't own an iPod other than a Nano. All of my music is WMA files which need conversion to MP3 and I'm not a big fan of iTunes anyway.
I've recently found a unit on Amazon that appears to do what I'd want; control a USB jump drive or SD card from the existing head unit. I was wondering if anybody had tried one or a similar type of unit.

I use the same plug as above, but my only issue is that the head will not play audio unless their is a cd in the changer. And if I remove the changer all together it also will not work. It gives me a communication with cd changer error. But I just leave the changer attached and CDs in it and it works.
One thing that I did so that I could play things other than my iPod was get an iPod dock Bluetooth adapter. This allows me to stream any music from my iphone like spotify or pandora. It works awesome.

Found 2 other units that appear to have what I want:
Loudlink MP3 CD Changer Emulator for PCM1

I wondered if anybody here has experience with either of these units and if they available anywhere in the US?

6 disc CD changer not responding
I tried ejecting the 6 CD cartridge, but no response when pushing the button. Any tips for waking it up?

I started where you are and ended up just removing everything and going with a Pioneer head unit and a nice new Alpine amplifier. The sound is an order of magnitude better too. You can fight it, but if you really like your tunes, you will replace it in the end...

Found a cheap easy work around!!
Bought this cassette to USB card adapter off fleabay.

Audio quality is decent, slightly better than your average factory cassette tape. It also has a remote which is nice
