996 turbo rear fender width compared to gt2/gt3

I read that the 996 gt2 has wider fenders than the 996 turbo, but I'm not sure that the outside width of the 996 gt2 is actually wider than the turbo.

Here you can buy the same quarter panel for the 996 4s, turbo, turbo s, gt2, and gt3.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Porsche-911-...-/111283529007

And here you can buy the same tail light for the 996 4s, turbo, turbo s, gt2, and gt3.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/2001-2005-PO...a75572&vxp=mtr

This tells me that the same basic body shell is used for the 996 4s, turbo, gt2, and gt3.

Can someone confirm and clarify this?

GT3 is narrow body in 996

not yet (i'm still in fantasy land regarding a 996), but thanks...

I like these wheels, but would get them with a center lock and maybe 20" just for show:

what is the difference between the rear bumper on a 996tt and a gt2?

I see the difference in the wing and front bumper, but wonder about the other exact differences between the turbo body and the gt2 body.

no worries!
GT2 body differs from a TT:
-front bumper
-no sunroof (TT had a delete option)
-fenders rolled
-rear decklid/spoiler

yeah, rolled fenders on a tt to more easily accommodate a 12" rear are the only way to go. basically anything that helps get this car where the gt2 begins helps. the 12 inch rear is a perfect example.

but rob already knows this

^all great cars! GT's just a bit more track-minded out of the box

I'll probably be working on a 6TT this weekend, will try to remember to do a test fit of my GT2 wheels on it (since at least rear wheels will be off anyway), to see how a bone-stock TT(N.A. ride height and all) looks on '2 wheels...lol

Cheers,

i put gt2 spec'd wheels on my tt with zero issues. didn't even roll the fenders. after 6 months of racing the car i had a small 6" long rub on the drivers side rear inner fender well. guessing it came from 5000 rpm launches!

fwiw don't give up on rennlist. theres some great info there and a few knowledgeable folks who don't use 6so. its a resource to be made the most of

Rolling the rears fenders won't prevent the inner wheel liner rubbing when running 12". If there were less clearance it would be continual instead of occasional and while under compression.

agreed i was saying i didn't roll the fenders and rubbing the lip hasn't been an issue. the rubbing on the inner liner is from running a bigger tire from the oem 295 and different offsets from factory. I'm also lower than factory on coilovers

The 12 inch rear matters on ride height and tire size. If you are on stock suspension and stock recommended tire size then there shouldn't be any issues.

With the gt2 the intercooler bracket is different then a 996tt, which means there is more room behind the fender to modify.

I am on JRZ coilovers and a fatter tire in the rear on 19x12 inch rears, I had to modify wheel fender liner, I melted it and molded it back also punched holes in it and pulled it back with zip ties. Overall it changes from case to case.
