Where Can I Buy 315/30-18 Street Tires?
Hello Gents,
I am stuck in a bit of a difficult situation… I do not trackthis car, so I am looking for a non-R compound rear tire in 315/30-18. Theproblem is that both previously available street tires—the PS2 and PZero appearto no longer be manufactured. Michelin list the tire on the website, but has noidea if or when the tire will ever be produced again. I order a set of PS2’s froma local shop and apparently obtained one of the last sets in the nation—the problemis that they were manufactured in 2008. The PZero’s I obtained, which I wouldlike to avoid for numerous reasons, are 2012 manufacture.
Question #1: Would you put a 2008 mfg tire on your car?
Question #2: Does anyone have a suggestion as for as where Ican look to obtain a set of PS2’s or have a tire suggestion for 315/30-18 rearfor the street? Thank you.

i just checked on availability on ps'2s in that size the other day. they were available!?
but then i'm also heavily leaning toward TRYING the rivals myself. reviews seem pretty decent. except for one guy whose tire separated at speed

Call King's Tire and Wheel in Glendale, California. Pretty sure the guy is a distributor. I couldn't get a 315/25/19 anywhere and he had them, and they were a GREAT deal compared to what I was finding online/ebay.

also check out DiscountTire, I might go with the Falken's again, were a good tire for me.
Was going to try Rival's but seem to have some tire tread separation issues, as 02996ttx50 said. Also the front tire size bugs me a bit 245/40-18, a bit taller than the rear...

Any links to the issue with Rivals? Curious to see the damage as I'm about to buy my second set.

i read of the rivals reviews after a search and it was their own pages. most reviews were good. then there was that. not a ringing endorsement, tire separation. sheesh.
jsun, can you say what wheel size you're running in front? i don't know how the rivals run but it would be good to know if that 245/35 were an option for me up front on a 9".
can/would someone please explain this size: 245/40ZR18 93 W. relative to say 235/40. wider not taller?
edit: couldn't again find the negative ( scary ) review of the tire separation case but the reviews on balance from folks that auto x a lot seem to be pretty decent, and they've tested them against the ad08's/rs3's etc.
a few mention stiff sidewall which is very important to me as i'm pounding tight corners.

i'm gonna give the rears a shot. we don't have many choice 315/30 and at 365 ea. i bet they're ok.

The first number is tire tread width, in mm.
The second number is the sidewall height, as a percentage of the width.
245/40 would be 245mm wide, with a 98mm sidewall.
235/40 would be 235mm wide, with a 94mm sidewall.

I'm sorry correction just checked the car, I have 245/40/18 front and 315/30/18 rears. Fronts slightly taller than rears mainly since I'm awd and as stated eariler it's for the power transfer. Front rims are 18x8.5 rears 18x11. It's a nice meaty setup on the car personally I think this is how it should of came on the 996 turbo from factory, the stock size just looks too thin. I have more confidence in this size. Sidewalls are actually fairly stiff and the slightly higher sidewall seems to feel nicer. Sidewalls sit very square not rounded or stretched. I can post pics if you like.

I have a GT2 (rwd out of the box).
Not against using Rivals, just weighing out all options thoroughly.
245 is section width, 40 is the ratio height(40% of whatever the section width is), and 18 of course is the required rim size. so, (245x 0.40 x2)/25.4+18=25.7" height
