DIY Turbo swap

Guys, been searching for good diy yourself for turbo replacement. I know most of the steps are pretty self explanatory regarding the exhaust manifold and the exhaust itself. Actually just replaced all the studs, nuts and bolts so there should be any difficulty there.

However, to access the bolt inside the oil tank, it it recommended to drain just the oil tanks, or drain all the oil and just replace with new along with filter?

I read using line wrenches will help with the oil feed lines.

I tried searching for a video, but have not been able to locate one.

Any other references or videos?

Thanks.

You can just drain the turbo sump tanks themselves...if you want.

Some of the oil lines might be tough...spray with penetrating oil and let sit. Then give them try.

It's all pretty self explanatory...if you are fairly mechanically inclined..you should be good.

just about 6 ozs. not much at all. if it were me and those turbos have been on the car for a long time i would order the oil lines in advance. good chance they are seized and will get ruined. also same for new exhaust and turbo gaskets.

Good advice. I've replaced a few 996 units with seized lines.

Yep, what Steve said. In fact, I'm sure my turbo feed lines were all mangled by the time I got them out. I was able to get the returns and vent lines out ok.

Another option is order -4an oil feed lines ~2ft and M12x1.50 to 4an adapters and just make your own oil feed lines. I went with standard garrett turbochargers so I knew I would be tossing my old oil feed lines anyways. Not sure how much $$ the stock oil feed lines are, but you might save some money there too.
