2004 Ruf RGT RS
I saw an interesting Mezger powered 996 on Mecum last night--they were in Monterey last week. Car sold for $175K

It's probably safe to say this is the very very high end of the 996 Market!

I wondered about that sale too. My wife & I were also surprised by Jay Leno's strong praise as the bids ran up. I know she sees my tt a little differently now.
I imagine Rufs will always be the high benchmarks for the platform. The flipside I suppose of being at the top, is the risk of falling harder.

Wow, interesting. There was a similar car but a Ruf RGT(not rs) on ebay some weeks ago. I was curious as to what it would sell for so I watched it. The car is a pretty "unique" color scheme inside and out so I wasn't sure how it would do. It got up to $60k and remained unsold. The car was also Mezger powered so I knew it would bring some higher bids. Honestly, the main thing that piqued my interest was that fact it was a Mezger car.
Besides the tremendous following and respect that Ruf has, I also think folks are realizing the limited number of cars you can actually purchase with a Mezger. Now that it is no longer being used even in Porsche motor sport cars the only way to get one is a pre-owned GT cars and 996 TT + 997.1 TT. I think from here on out all Mezger based cars will have an inherent value to them off the bat.
Here is a link to the one I'm referring to:

The copper RGT is a bit unusual. Being the pre-facelift 996 doesn't help. The fact it's a C4 also makes it a bit different. Then, there is the interior.

I don't disagree...these are not 'wholesale' dealer auctions that's for sure. I attended Mecum Monterey 2 years ago and people were paying stupid money for cars. It's retail+ prices!

who ever implied that any auctions during monterey are at 'wholesale' prices?? with the 10% premium (and all the hype), these are typically auctions that benefit the seller. these auctions are totally hit and miss - some cars are not nearly as nice as they appear, while others are truly collectible quality - certainly at the Gooding and RM auctions.
