6 pot/piston calipers, worth the trouble?

I may have the opportunity to pick up a set of front 6 pot gt2/3 calipers. For a really good price. Although I would want to rebuild and repaint them for sanity reasons.
PN: 996.351.431.30/ 31
Is it worth the trouble to install these? Will I need a gt2/3 brake resivoir for the additional fluid running these?
I don't track my car, but do a lot of canyon drives. And of course love the looks of the bigger calipers.

Thanks

you will need to move up to 350 mm rotors to run the 6 pots. you should up the rears as well to 350 to keep the brake bias were it should be. if your like me and you got a full set for free do it. if your not tracking the oem setup is quite capable in its own respect. other than that its plug and play

Not free, but pretty close. I was planning on going to the 350 mm rotors on my next brake job anyways.

if your going to run 350 mm rotors front and back you need a spacer for the rears and keep your 4 pistons on back front will bolt up and you should be set. i would replace brake lines (rubber) since they are 10+ yrs old and flush with new fluid motul 650 and you should be set

in what "canyon" do you find the stockers inferior to the point of necessitating a change?

i'd say, just downshift more often, and lay off the brakes lol

agreed, I run a lot of canyons here in NorCal with stock brakes/pads/lines and have never found them wanting. I do change the fluid annually though.

I don't ever recall the stock brakes getting hot to the point of fade. I also like the fact that the stock textar pads are quiet and not too bad on dust.

I'm not saying the stockers are inferior to my canyon driving. I was just stating the fact that's all I do beside picking up groceries in my TT.

( forgive me if there was any snarkiness associated with my query? at least i don't drink and drive HA.. )

the reason i ask, is mine is a ( literally ) "dedicated" hillclimber and i have never had ONE issue with braking and i'm on brand new rotors and also oem textars..

i have for years watched and read of people modding stuff they dont need! a guy on another thread is replacing his oems with 350 6 pots(?) for what!? he claims his car is driven on the street! and i ask him, on what "street" are the oem's INsufficient? ya know what i mean?

thats the only reason i asked.. it could be driving style as my preference is spirited uphill runs. who knows. whatever works!

we agree though, there is little to "no" fade when driving in canyons lol..cheers.

I tracked my original 996tt and tried different pads/rotors/fluids/ducts and ALWAYS cooked and lost brakes. I never had a problem anywhere else, but places like Laguna Seca were harder in brakes for a heavy car. Beyond that the stockers are great. I repainted then added a new sticker and was quite pleased with the result.

My new 6TT is already upgraded as I intend to track it, but if it wasn't that would have been one of my first upgrades.

The 350mm rotors look better- so that's an upgrade you can do even with 4-pots.

... though in fairness, i DO have some add'l brk ducting with a/c hose running from my fascia directing any add'l airflow to the calipers.

whether or not this helps cools the pads/rotors etc? i dont know for certain,.. but it can't hurt.

and this is what it looked like BEFORE i replaced it which is a bi-annual event! lol

very similar to the 993 ducts.

this is essentially what was done w/out the backing plates. same routing of the hoses to the calipers.

https://cantrellmotorsport.com/cantr...ake-duct-kits/

here's a pelican DIY showing the mod on a 993TT. virtually the same as i have.
