View Poll Results: Please check which year vehicle, and which shifter you had when the problem occurred
After reading many different complaints regarding this issue, I'm curious to find out if a specific year/type of TT, and type of shifter is more susceptible to the problem than others.
For those that have had the 2nd gear pop-out issue occur on their car, please take part in this poll so we can make an attempt at locating similarities between cars that have had the problem.
Since 10 is the maximum number of options available for a poll on this forum, I was unable to include GT2's or 2004 and newer TT's. Because of this, we'll need some further information from you in the form of a post. So, regardless of whether you checked one of the boxes or not; please post the following info:
-Year/type of car (200x TT, X50, Turbo S or GT2)
-Type of shifter in the car when problem 1st occurred (stock, B&M, etc...)
-Miles on the car when problem 1st occurred
-How much time on track (0%, 10%, 50%. etc..)
*Remember...in order for us to keep this as accurate as possible, everyone needs to post the above info whether your car fell into one of the poll options or not. This means if there's 50 voters that voted in the poll, there should be at least 50 posts in the thread listing the above details.
Once we get some stats from this poll, I'll create another poll to help narrow down what we've learned. Thank you for the help with this, your input is appreciated.

That's why I asked for those with SSK's to specify which brand. I want to find out if the B&M is really the problem SSK. Plus...it seems a lot of the posts I've seen regarding this issue have been about cars using stock shifters. So I'm just looking for some stats.
I didnt have the issue with the stock shifter at the track.. it was only when I installed the b&M... then when they changed the tranny I put in the P car ssk and I have no problems....

Mine was an '01 with 11K. I marked my vote as with SSK however I had only had it installed for 2K miles at the time of failure. Mine was a B&M brand SSK.
Mine occured with stock shifter (I am second owner) and mine occured
before I started tracking my car. My car was bone stock (did not "look" to
be tracked prior to my owning it).
I now have B&M short shifter and the symtoms are no different nor has it gotton worse.
When I fix mine I will have the entire box (innards) reinforced and get taller
1st gear.

Markski, do you mean all was well until you installed the B&M? Cause I'm going to install a B&M in a couple of days in my '03 TT. To date i have not had this second gear problem. Would you reccomend the Porsche short shifter?, isn't it made by B&M as well? That's what the dealership told me anyways.

It's your call... but when you have the problem.. will the dealer honor ur warranty? if so do it... if not , pay the extra 200 bucks and sleep assured.
I learned the hard way.... and many other did as well.
get the ssk online and ull save a $150 bucks and have ur dealership install it.
tahst what I would do.
I only got the problem after I went to the track and did 1/4 runs... just liek the memo stated... "that the syncros may nor slow down fast enough".... with after market shifters...

Thanks for the advice. Great to know from some one that has experienced this.
I think that Markski (as usual) has a very valid point about SSKs in general. The shorter throw is due to faster actuation of the gear. It seems to me that SSKs result is harder shifts every time, at least as far as the sycros are considered.
