Maintenance costs/year

What are you guys spending on repairs a year- on average of course. Huge costs? Resonable? Thanks!

It's not repairs that cost...it's mods! I have not spent a dime on repairs....as mine is still under warranty. Mods...well that is a different story.

Maintenance about $1500 per year depending on how often you change oil and tires. The 30K/60K services are about $1250-1500 each at the dealers. That's if nothing goes wrong. Pretty damn reliable otherwise. Best Porsche I have owned.

What about non-scheduled repairs, I have heard a few horror stories- I am looking a '01-02 cars, so no warranty. I do have an independent mechanic that is VERY resonable...

Porsches wear rear tires every 10k miles, and fronts every 20k. oil changes are like $200.

These cars are bulletproof.

Amen to below. You stat by thinking there is way in hell I'm going to pay $2500+ for an exhaust and the next thing you know you have the mods in my Sig...

Costs:
oil change 85 with my M1.
tires.....see tirerack for the car....500-1000 a set..rears more than fronts
air filter---did it himself,23.
Cabin filter, ditto, 23.
Plugs, ditto (major PITA), FR6's....not iridiums, trust me, 40$

Now, the OEM clutch blew when I put Kevin's UMW software in.....so I put in a LWFW package from Kevin....way nicer than stock.

I had two 996TT's: 2002 and a 2003X50. $1500/year excluding tires is a good estimate. 996TT's **HAVE NOT** been bullet proof. These things tend to burn up transmissions, and PAG has not owned up to the problem. So if you get a used manual Turbo, assume you will need $12k or so to fix the transmission.

Ignoring the doomsaying aspect of this, I was under the impression that trannies can now rebuilt for about $3500-4500... Please correct me if I'm mistaken.

Considering that HARD driving that most members here does in these car...with MODS, "kills", 1/4 miles, track-time, etc... it is about as good as it gets. You are not buying a Toyota.

mike..help..

just bought an 02 tt w x50. 27.5 k miles seemed pristine at the time of purchase and had it "cetified" and bought the extra factory warranty another 35/4 grand on top of the price .. car seemed perfect. now pops out of second gear. bought it from dealer and wouldnt have bought withOUT the certified 2 year factory warranty. dealer has shown me the parts books from Porsche showing what the 1st and 2nd gears would look like based upon the difference btw driver abuse!! and factory defect ( which i know is exactly what it is! )..

they tell me they gotta open it up at a cost of 3800.00 to make the determination whether or not the problem was MY fault!? ive had the car redlined once or twice and they report two stage events one @ 650 hours ( a stage TWO event when i could NOT have owned the car! ) and another at 850 hours ( a stage ONE even that was me shredding down the 405 FWY to laguna beach..)..

my point..

im worried theyre gonna try and stick ME with the 9K tab to replace 1st and 2nd gears and the synchros which they say do need replacing given the problem...what can?? or should i do..and should i do anything BEFORE i tell them to open it up..

the service REP said to me ( OFF THE RECORD..the tech "likes" you ( as in..im not just another rich guy ashole they act like they deal with daily ******* but rather thyve got me pegged as just a working stiff who bought his used dream car and is now scared ****less im gonna get stuck with the 9k tab!)..

and as a result of THAST assessment, hes hininting its gonna be foun d as a factore defective gears issue which would make my warranty cover it!

any ideas os info as to how i can show SOME..ANY documentation that this problem DOES in fact exist?

again..ive had three 911's and have had to do BATTLE w PCNA before over a service issue that went on for a friggin YEAR..and hopin i DONT gotta go thru that again!

any help is appreciated! thx

996TT and transmissions that suck ....

02996ttx50: Read this thread in its entirety:
2nd gear "pop-out" issues? Click here.

Post again when finished and we can discuss. I had the exact issue: used X50 with REV2 violation of indeterminate origin. PAG did not stand behind the product, preferring to blame the driver.
The outcome was not good.

The bottom line: You bought a model of used car that sucks. You are probably out the $3-$11k it will cost to fix the defective transmission.

More here:
SOS Ok guys here we go again with the "poppin outta 2nd gear" issue

Here also (sorry for sending you to that other board):

I see you are in Studio City. There is a great indie P shop here on the otherside of the San Fernando Valley in Canoga Park. Send me a PM if you want the number so you can get some idea on maintenance/repair costs. The dealer $$$ are crazy.
