Red face Lowering a 996 without paying a ton of $$?

Hello Everyone!

Just trying to get some options and opinions on lowering our 996 about 1/2 to 1". Currently, it is sitting on 19"s. I know we can get the top of the line shocks, springs, etc., but since we are modifying 2 p-cars, we're trying to stay middle of the road for $.

We are doing this for looks mostly, but performance would be great, too! Right now, there are no mods done other than the 19"s.

Any suggestions?

Thank You!

Can't help you yet on lowering. I am too new to the pcar world and the forum has me spending money on other mods right now.

You will get your answer I am sure though.

It's meant as a joke. None of it is very fancy by this forums standards except the Mustang which is in total restoration right now. I have my sleds at my brothers with my ATV.

I don't even mention my 19hp twin Sears lawn tractor.

Well I think you will find that the most commonly given answer here when it comes to suspension is going to be the PSS9's. They aren't the cheapest way to lower your car, but the most reliable and effective. You will achieve a better ride more aggressive stance, and certainly better handling. A spring/shock combo may cost less in the short run, but I think you will find you will be much more happy with adjustable ride height/dampening. I have PSS9's on two of my 3 cars, and I love them.

home grown,

thank you for the info! do you know what the PSS9's would run? I have no idea. I'm thinking somewhere in the ballpark of $2500 to $3000. am i wayyyy off on the price?

thanks a bunch!

You are very close, I think the 2300 dollar range is around the normal price. You can probably figure ~$250 for installation if you don't intend to do it yourself.

I would guess more like $600-$700 for install at a Porsche shop. Plus alignment and corner balance for Pss9's. Would end up about $3200 total.

Springs(H&R, Eibach) can be had for $400 with the same cost for install(600-700) plus an alignment(no adjustment for corner balance with springs).I would recommend changing out the shocks and struts with the new springs at an additional cost of $1000 for Bilsteins. So for lowering springs and shocks/struts would be around $2300.

Personally, I would go PSS9's. No question. Better performance, adjustable stiffness, adjustable ride height, last longer.

Yeah, I just figured 3 hours labor at $65/hour which is the price of the shop I use when I don't do it myself. I would just do it myself so I never really worry about install prices. I didn't add in probably the extra 300 for the alignment/corner balancing.
