Is there a radio harness available for 99 996 CR220

I'm looking at replacing my CR220 radio with an aftermarket radio ... considering an Alpine CDA-9887. I spoke to the folks at Best Buy and Circuit City and they stated that they'll have to splice into the existing radio harness to accomodate the radio. I was rather surprise to hear that considering plenty of harnesses available for many vehicles. I did a search on eBay to see if there are any available, the only ones I can find are for 1996-1998. I have a 99 C2 and would like to avoid splicing into the existing wiring as much as possible. Thanks.

Hence the reason why I posted the note in the forum ... looking to replace the HU and seeking a harness.

It seems that there may be a harness for Audi/Volkswagen that may be compatible. I found an article on Renntech on a Pioneer installation.

The harness for the Audi/Volkswagen is available on eBay ..

yup, you will use a VW harness. Plug and play for the most part. Don't forget an antenna adapter as well.

Hi Folks,

I finally received my Alpine CDA-9887 receiver and VW harness. Before I start on my HU replacement and splicing into the wiring harness, is there a wiring diagram on the forum I can use as a reference. I recall seeing one a while back but could not seem to find it now. Can someone please point me to the diagram ? I have a 99 C2. Thanks in advance

if you purchased the correct harness, the installation should be straightforward. the harness should plug into the car's existing plugs and have the wires on the other side color coded for DIN radio installs. if so, then all you need to do is match color for color

The concern i have is that it is a VW harness and the colour code may not match up to the Porsche wiring.

understood. unfortunately I'm not familiar with the VW harness. however, as DJbrand1 mentioned, it should be plug and play. I did look at the link for the harness on ebay, and it does use the same plugs as Porsche. I'd be willing to bet that VW and Porsche use the same parts-bin-engineering approach and share this part. (considering how much of VW is owned by Porsche ) so it should have the same wiring scheme as the one for your 996

The colors of the wires in the harness seldom actually match the colors of the vehicle's wire harness. Don't let that scare you.

yup, and that's the whole point of a converter harness such as this. however, I can understand rlim just wanting to be sure, just in case the VW factory harness may have a slightly different pinout than the Porsche harness even though the plugs are the same

Rlim,
i had the same issue as you did. i tried calling places, even crutchfield, and they didn't have the plug. I got a plug that didn't even fit. I was afraid to try any other plug just in case the wirings didn't match.
I got the alpine 9885 from cruchfield that came with free Ipod cable ($30.00). I tapped each wire, and ran RCA cables to 2 new amps (1 for subwoofer behind my back seats and the other amp for speakers). I spliced the speakers in the front of the car and ran them to the amp. I didn't wanna use the factory amp as it was not powerful enough.
The sound is amazing and great and it hits pretty hard. I can post pics later.
The only thing i didn't plug in to the stereo was the Light wire, i like my stereo bright all the time.
Also i ordered the Aux cable from cruchfield ($15.00) so i can plug in my mp3 player or other aftermarket mp3 player using a stereo cable.

I installed an Alpine 9835 in my BMW and it was a straight forward installation as the harness wiring are color coded correctly. I had a similar setup where I had a mono sub amp and 4 channel speaker amp installed in my trunk. I eventually removed it as I needed the space in my trunk ... Dual 12" sub box took all my trunk space. I ended up using the Alpine HU with the Harmon Kardon system that came with the car. The sound quality is quite good surprisingly.
