Clutch Replacement Cost

I think I am being set up for a hosing. My clutch went out today and I had my 99 C2 (75K miles) towed to the dealer. He quoted me $2200 for a clutch replacement. This is about double what I was expecting. What is typical cost for clutch replacement from a dealer? I live in Mobile, AL and am not aware of any independent Porsche mechanic locally, so I am pretty much stuck with the dealer. Any suggestions on keeping my dealer's charges in check?

Thanks.

A good friend of mine has an 04 C4S...it cost him 3800 at the Miami dealer.
He had 46000 miles on it.

I would expect about 800 bucks in parts and about 7 or 8 hours of labor. If you need a flywheel expect another 1000. The reality is that the dealers can charge whatever they want. You can probably save yourself a few buck by buying the clutch kit from sunset for cost plus 10%.

That sounds about right. I still haven't seen the $1800 clutch job everybody talks about. Not from a dealer in miami.

i changed mine last week. Sachs clutch kit from ebay $358 plus $40S/H. Labor $350.00 My mechanic does regular services in my garage but this time we needed to lift the car so we went to a nearby shop and rented the lift for $50. Not bad ! My car has 44500 mi. He did it in less than 3 hours plus he changed oil and filter.

Looking at everyone's price for replacing new clutch made me feel really good and stupid at the same time. Last year, I had my clutch replaced at that time my local Porsche shop quoted $1,350 parts/labor. I thought it was high but had the work done. Now I know I was not taken for a ride from my indie. An apology is in order.

it's pretty ez to ballpark install/parts cost.

get pricing on OEM parts from a vendor like sunset porsche.

ask your indy how much they charge by the hour.

ask around here or elsewhere how much a typical clutch job takes.

Clutch kit cost around $480ish. If you are mechanically inclined, do it yourself. Get as much info from renntech, and here as you can and then be prepared to spend a weekend getting dirty. The only other cost may be some special tool only available through porsche.

I say it's fair, try $1200 for a brake job, less than 45 min per side.

What do I need?

My problem is that I don't know what I need.
My clutch is fine, but I am having the IMS bearing replaced with the LNS solution.
I am getting mine done free of charge for volunteering my car for a tech session - just need the parts. I have no idea what to get.
Sounds like the clutch kit has all I need ?
Does anyone have a must replace list?
I should assume the flywheel and everything else currently in the car should be re-usable.

My clutch replacement is scheduled in for next month, my Indy is doing it for £750 which is around $1200. I'm happy with that
