996 Engine Swap...Here's what I found out...

You simply unbolt the cable throttle body and matching T plenum off the 3.4 and place it right onto the 3.6.
The engine itself doesn't know or care how the throttle butterfly is opened.

Any performance gain after the rebuild?

I'm going to try to get 500 miles and an oil change under my belt in the next week

how much did the whole thing set you back?

$12,781
My best suggestion is take it to the dealer (I'm not kidding) and negotiate with them. The local dealer could have done it for $11900 but since I already had $3400 invested with Eurosport my back was against the wall. Dealers pretty much HATE Suncoast Porsche because their engine is priced about $8700 while every other dealer has them at $10,100. So dealer markup on the 3.4L is at least $1400. They can get it done for $9000 in parts and $2900 in labor but it is going to take the car owner some work in beating up the parts and service department

Does the new set feel any different than the old (ie more responsive, power, etc)? What's amazing to me is that VF SC can set you back even more than installing a motor from porsche back into these p-cars. hmmmm.
Did you switch anything else out while you were doing the engine swap - I'll have to go back and take a look at your prior posts to get a history on your issues since I am not familiar with them.

the reassurance is these are remanufactured with the latest parts which i puport makes them more reliable/desireable than the original factory units that came with the car (it failed on you right?).
i've yet to hear of a reman engine going thru a catastrophic failure (e.g. IMS shaft).

just got the car back with the GT3 bumper on it and WOW it looks great - I will take some pics tomorrow. I'm going to try to get 500 miles and an oil change done by next Tuesday (off to San Antonio this weekend) and hope to have a performance report next week. So far, so good.

Over three years since this post started and the numbers changed a little, but the result is the same. The core charge is $17,500 and you only get that back if you buy the same engine for $15,400. I tried everything, but the answer was, "Nein".
