My engine did fail but it was due to a IMS failure and am now breaking in the new engine before continuing the tune.
Why do you believe lower compression ratios would be required for a turbo than for a SC?

AFAIK no one on this thread is talking about a DIY turbo install... DIY SC yes.
Good memory pjalexandre: You are right and the Turbo's would have been cost prohibitive and my GULF V1 Blew because of the IMS failure.

It's not that you can't run higher ratio's I just would not feel comfortable running 1 plus bar at 11.3 compression. I think the Turbo engine is better suited for these pressures.

I agree. Personally I'm a little wary of running any forced induction (let alone 1 bar) at these kinds of compression ratios. It just sounded like you felt a supercharger somehow gave you a benefit over a turbo in terms of dynamic compression ratio. For the same temperature, 1 bar is 1 bar regardless of how you compress it (sc or turbo) so neither has an advantage with regards to running on engines of particular static compression ratios.

I agree with your concerns and if it was not for the fact that they have been running the Vortec SC for years with little problems I would have choose differently or not at all.

Mother,

I followed your build real close. Like a stalker even. LOL

Question about your V2. Where did you get the mount for it and what pulley size did you settle on?

The mount is built by Vortec and is a modified 1998 Ford Cobra mount with a 3.33" pulley size. And I just love ebay.

The GSR makes a great track car... If only one could flip the drive train around easily, it would be even more fun.

Hoses are cheap, custom charge pipes are cheap, and I could get all the parts at autozone. I just would need to find sometype of engine management and someone who knew how to tune Porshce's. I already have the 3rd radiator kit.

Yeah it's one of the best handling front wheel drive cars, but front wheel drive has so many limitations. I just like the idea because they are cheap, easy to work on, you can beat the heck of them, and you can find parts everywhere dirt-cheap for them. So my plan is to use that heavily at the track and in a few years when I have a little more money, transition the 911 out there. I'll still get the 911 out there every now and again.
