i just got back into a 996 after a little time off, anyway it seems i have forgotten the correct method of checking the oil with the dip stick. does the car need to be on/off/operating temp? just the proper method, thanks.

if you are using the dipstick, it should be operating temp and the engine off. make sure you are level also.
