HELP! Oil pressure dips

So after my first DIY oil change I am still getting weird oil readings.

Car is 1999 C2 Coupe 6-speed with about 9k on engine

Today I did some more testing....

1. Startup - no oil pressure for 1 second then up to 5 if cold
2. hot idle. 1.65 when warmed up at idle
3. level 4 at 3k rpm when hot
4. Hard accel. 1st gear fine.....2nd gear when coming through 4500rpm it starts to dip. dips down to 2.75-3.25 before rising and holding around 4
5. Sweepers or tight curves: on both left and right curves 3rd gear 3k rpm......dips to 2.5 and bounces (very erratic needle)

I have read about oil starvation in other threads but I have not found any info like mine above. Is this normal?

TIA

Check the contacts on the sender. They're on the right side of the engine about two-thirds of the way back--tough to see. They get a bit corroded and tend to provide bad readings

You need an X51 oil pan from Porsche for $240, it will help your oil pressure in corners.

Seems like a lot of these threads lately....oil pressure sending unit is either failing or contacts are bad.
I just went through the same thing.....it must be heat related....it is hot here

I will check the contacts, but wouldn't that be across the board? Not so Dependant on g's or engine load?

I will check the oil pan baffle replacement also.

Thanks!

A bad sending unit/conectivity will not provide a smooth responce and is not predicable. If your indications are eratic then follow the indicator/sending unit route. Better yet - Always trouble shoot the sensors first.

That is my worry. This is fairly predictable and repeatable.

For example. If I do a semi emergency swerve to avoid maneuver, the OP gauge will dip quickly. If I shift hard into 2nd and jump on gas...OP dips...
Normal driving around...OP calmly goes up and down nicely.

Looking more like a new baffle is needed.

The baffle is potentially a problem it can deteriate and does slow the cross flow. There is a fix - a metal flapper replacement. One of the gents here detailed it out. Worth a search.

the stock flaps have a tendency to fail... I really dont like how the are attached to the wall (pretty cheesy IMHO). The x51 is much better design and riveted rather than a plastic tit.

A failing oil pressure sending unit might easily cause these strange readings. You might consider using a mechanical oil pressure gauge to verify the OEM system's display.
