Fender Shredding Tires w/997 wheels on 996

I recently installed a set of 997 Carrera Classic 19" wheels with new 295/30 rears on my '01 C2 cab. This tire wheel & tire combination is available for the current 997 C2, so I assumed it would fit.

The rear tires actually stick out from the fenders about 1/4", which I thought I could live with because its not real noticeable. However, I have now noticed the new tires are getting shredded by the fender when the body rolls.

I do not see any spacers between the wheel and the hub. Has anyone else seen this problem? I am wondering if there are two versions of the Carrera Classis wheels, 1 for narrow and 1 for wide body, and I got the wide ones? Or perhaps, the 997 C2 is wider than the 996?

I would appreciate any help you can provide!

Thanks!

Thats a common problem when trying to switch without keeping an eye on the offset. Got any pics...not that they would make a difference but we would love to see the carnage.

narrow body 997 rear tire size is 265. you have a wide body set of rims.

i'd exchange the rim with another NB 997 owner.

IIRC, model year 01 can take up to a 285 in the rear on a 10" wide rim and 295 on an 11" rim. Note that Porsche has issued a Technical Service Bulletin when using this size tire. Check out TSB 4440 for info on reworking the fender on www.renntech.org. Well worth joining. [Note, I'm not sure about the 19" rims, as the TSB applies to 18"]

Lower the car, adjust camber....thats all....I had 19" 997 rims on my C4 Cab narrow body and the stock 295/30/19 tires. No rubbing at all. My car was lowered with an aggressive camber.

I have an 01 C4 NB with 19x11 997 Carrera S wheels in the rear. The tire size I have been using is 315/25/19 and I have no issues. You must have an offset issue

Could also be an aligment issue- either that or you accidentally picked up wide-body offset 19" rims. An alignment shop may be able to adjust the rears so they tuck in a bit better, but what you stated about then sticking out 1/4" has me thinking you have a set of WB wheels.
My 06 C2 NB 997 came with 295/30/19 rears (So I don't think the previous 265 comment is accurate, JMHO). The 997 NB is a bit wider than the 996 NB, but the wheels should fit fine.

Look on the rear rims, is there an offset number stamped on them?

I run 295/30 rears on a 99 NB. The offsets for the rear are 65 in my application, no rubbing, no problems on a lowered car.

The wheels are 19x11 with 51 offset. I assume that larger offset number pushes the wheel further to the inside. Thus, I need the other version of Carrera Classic wheel for NB with the 67 offset?

Yes those are widebody wheels...the lower the offset, the farther out they stick out. Yes the NB version has a 67 offest. Rolling the fenders will not work with those wheels.

Got suggestions on a wheel shop where I might be able to trade?
