Quality is superb.
The controls are only accessed directly on your ipod... so yes to playlist/shuffle etc..
Since you are hitting buttons on your ipod, you already know how responsive it is.

Apple put a LOT of time, money and resources into the user interface of the iPod. I saw no reason to even attempt to 'reinvent the wheel' so with this device, you use your iPod to control your iPod. Same as if you were just listening with headphones.

Sound quality is the same, if not better, than your stock CD changer.

CDR-220 Won't go into Aux Mode

OK, so I pushed TP, selected Aux mode, and turned the radio off. When I turn it back on it still says CDC, not AUX on the display. I didn't fully disconnect the power. Is that why it isn't entering AUX mode?

Turn the radio on, hold down the TP button until Becker 1 is displayed.
Turn tuning knob until AUX OFF is displayed. Then arrow down and change it to AUX ON.
Turn the radio off.

...and you can still play the ipod, but the CD controls are showing up on the lcd?
disconnect the CD Changer box from the car, do it from inside the trunk. then do the TP button as described by Euclid.

I pulled the blue plug out of the back of the head unit. My radio display does not say AUX, it thinks its still talking to the CD Changer. I am getting the iPod audio.

pull the plugs from the cdchanger box.. in addition to removing the plug from the rear of the head unit... eject the magazine first.

Where do I find the plugs for the CD changer?

How does the CDR-220 know that the CD Changer is still in the car if the blue plug has been pulled?

Did you follow the installation directions above?
Try changing the source by hitting the S button.
