Need new rear bumper on my 996 C2 want to install 4S bumper need help!
Have to install a new rear bumper on my Carrera 2 and would like to have the bumper of the 4S. The 4S bumper is just for widebody, is it possible to modificate the 4S bumper and install it on the C2? Or should I order a modified bumper for C2?
Thank you!

Yes it is possible to modify the widebody bumper to fit your C2. I believe 1 inch needs to be cut off on both sides near the vents.
Another option is to get a replica turbo rear bumper to work with C2 but I think that those bumper doesn't even look close like a turbo bumper. Basically it looks like a regular rear bumper with holes cut up on the sides. The rear bottom portion and the bumperettes are the same as a C2 on the reps.
You can modify the C4 or Turbo bumper per the other post. Make sure the shop is good if you go this route or it won't look correct. You can't use the C4 vents afterwards since that area is changed.
There is an aftermaket version for the C2. I have the Polyuretane ver that comes with Lambo Screen. It is not like the MK1 ver, but more like the Mk2 ver. The lines are cleaner and it doesn't look like a cut out per the other post. I thought the same until I put the two side by side. The Poly aftermaket version is a softer compound than the OE PU version. A little more flexible, but bolts on firmly. There is also a Fiberglass version as well, but I am not a fan of FG bumpers if they can be avoided.

Can you point out, on the photos you provided, what section cannot be used? Good thread, as I'm trying to figure out the best rear bumper to upgrade to as well. Thx!

The area I was talking about is the grill vent covers normally located behind the openings in the rear bumper as pictured below
parts number 996.505.663.01 01C Grill Vent Left (1) $82.88 & 996.505.664.01 01C Grill Vent Right (1) $82.88
The all black bumper I pictured above is the aftermarket PU version without the openings cut out for the bumperettes yet like the OEM Mk2 Euro version. It also has hexagonal screen in black like the Lambo screen that secures in behind the openings pictured above instead of the grill vents.

That one doesnt look like a turbo bumper but looks more like a stock MKII bumper that have the holes cut up. Reason is the rear bottom portion curves inward rather than drop straight down like the OEM turbo/c4s. Also the portion where the bumperettes does not look like the turbo/c4s.

Amazing since I said it was patterned from a Mk2 bumper. The lines of the Turbo and C4S bumper do not line up correctly for the 996 C2 near the lights if you look at the yellow car above. That is an un-modified OEM C4s bumper installed on a C2. Even modding the vents, this won't be corrected. There is no exact Turbo/C4S bumper for a C2; that is how Porsche designed the rears to be. Obviously the reason the aftermarket versions use the Mk2 upper part in their molds is because it better fits the lines of the fenders and tail lights correctly and it also aligns the bumper to use either the Mk1 or Mk2 versions bumperettes or none if desired. The Turbo/C4s bumper is designed to use their correct bumperettes
The bottom goes inward because there a two connection points that have to be attached in the center section of the lower bumper. If they are not connected then it would probably flap at high speed. I am sure you could make a straight ver, but you would have to make connecting metal parts to bridge them together.
Again as I said before, there is no way possible to get the depth around the openings by simply cutting out holes in the Mk2 bumper. The cross bars are ~1/2" thick and molded to blend into the bumper. The OEM bumper is ~1/8" thick at best and if you cut it out as I planned to, then it will look like a Mk1/Mk2 bumper with holes cut out. The third pic in the post above show this pretty clearly. I own the Mk1, Mk2, mk1 w/GT3 side bumperettes and the aftermarket PU Turbo-look bumper for comparison. My buddy also has a Turbo and a spare Techart as well so I have personally seen most of the bumpers for this car. If there was a simple direct bolt on solution or you could simply cut holes in a Mk1/Mk2 bumper, then this would be a non-issue; obviously such is not the case. Both solutions have their shortcomings. All aftermarket body parts have to look at least slightly different than the Porsche OEM parts or Porsche will sue them or charge them royalties.

Dark Knight... Where did you purchase your polyurethane rear bumper?
I have '99 C2, and installed Turbo bumper(same as 4S). I was gonna shave little bit, but I didn't need it. You can fit the pretty well, but the both side of the coner would stick out just little bit... doesn't bother me that much, but there will be the gap around the tail light. I used ruber gasket to fill them. ANOTHER ISSUE will be location of the exhaust tips. You have to modify them. Precision porsche has Turbo look bumper, but the location of the exhaust tip gets too close to the grills, and I don't like them at all.
