Just purchased one - question on the small cap for the top of the air box - do you silicone this on or can you use the old metal screw strap to secure it and will it stay on?

Crazy glue the orange insert and then just sit the black cap over that and that will stay since the orange block off cap has to fall off to knock the cover cap off. I just sold one and replaced it with a Evolution motorsports CAI but the schnell one worked fine for what it is.
Ok, I called Vertex and asked about the installation asthe small orange part was to small to go over the rim of the air box hole. He said I was to turn the piece over and insert the orange part into the hole. Question, is he meaning that I insert the orange piece from the bottom side of the box so that it protrudes thru the hole and then put the black piece on top of it (like it came as)? He also said to use silicone to secure it in the hole.
Am I correct in this intrepratation of installation?
Thanks for your responses - seems the correct way is to just turn the orange piece upside down and insert into hole (with some silicone) and then place the cap on top of it. It came with no instructons - seems simple enough.
No glue is needed. You put in the orange cap, then put the black cap over. The unit is designed to pop off under a back pressure situation to not cause other damage.

I have been using for a while now without glue. The instructions did not say anything about that too. I was under the impression that it is designed to pop off in some conditions to protect the engine.

Ok - if I place the orange plug into the top of the air box, the black cap cannot fit. The only way I see this thing working is to remove the top piece of the air box, turn it upside down and insert the orange piece through the hole, turn the air box right side up and then place the black cap on the orange piece (like it came). Putting silicone to glue it on seems to be a yes or no proposition depending on who you talk with. I hope this is the correct way to insert it. If someone can confirm this I would appreciate it.
I inserted the orange plug from the outside of the airbox (the end of the plug w/o the rim going in first) and then put the black cover cap over that and secured it with a clamp (not supplied in the kit, but like the metal screw strap you mentioned earlier). I found that if I didn't clamp the cover cap in place it blew off quite regularly ... I didn't use glue or silicone.

I just forced the orange cap on from the top and pushed the black cover over it. I needs to come off if the engine backfires. Otherwise the airbox would blow apart. DO NOT SILICONE OR CLAMP IT IN! The only reason it will come off is in the case of a backfire. Schnell will replace the caps for free in that event......
