bore size

What was the maximum bore diameter that you could go with utilizing the steel sleeve setup that you have? I'd be interested in doing a NA version of this motor. Could you get 4.0L out of it? I'd have to look up the stroke but the 3.4 bore is about 96mm... I think you would need to go 100+mm to get to 4.0. 300hp is a blast stock so another 100 hp would be awesome NA.

If your going to be strictly NA you can go over a 99mm bore but then you need custom head gaskets cut to the correct bore. The reason I stopped at a 99mm bore is it still gave me plenty of meat and I can use a factory 997 head gasket on my 996 motor. However if there is any chance you plan to change from NA to a boosted setup you will be limited on the PSI due to cylinder wall thickness in my opinion

Are you using 99mm 997 3.8 pistons as well? or custom?

Thanks for the info! 3.8l 2000 C2 should be fun. Right now I have a boxster S motor in my 996 (3.2l)

Amille28 the pistons are a 99mm bore but not from a 997 since the valve cut/size/locations are different. I had to have them scan in a 3.4 piston to use as a reference for the valve cuts and then increase the piston size from 96mm to 99mm. Then we had to measure the cc's in the head to get the right compression ratio that we wanted in the pistons based off the factory head gasket thickness.

here is a 3.6 on left next to a 3.4 on the right. both pistons were from the shops pile of parts...lol

then this was the outcome : )

Not a whole lot in the sense of updates but hopefully here in the week or two I'll be able to post some engine build photos as it gets put back together.

Here are some pictures of my 996 MK1 Aero (gt3 poser lol) as it sits on the lift at 9XX Motors.

I'm very interested to see how this build comes along.
Are you planning on flashing the ECM or just going with the stock programming? Do you plan on using stock fuel injectors and fuel pump?
Any plans to change the cams or CR or upgrade IMS bearing?

Amille28 the tune will be done on the factory ecu and Todd K. with Protomotive.

the fuel system in completely redone for e85, two additional bosch 044's pumps with an antisurge tank, all new fuel lines and fittings and new injectors. The fuel rail is just getting modified with AN-fittings.

CR is 9.0:1 with the new pistons.

as far a cams I was initially set on getting new cams for this application however the only cams offered are schrick at a price of about $2000 and are not specific to a turbo setup which is obvious because this car never came that way. The other route would be to have my factory cams welded/regind to new specs but pricing is still about the same. So this may get put on the back burner.

I went with the GT3 RS 4.0 Kit but changed the lettering to GT4RS and did Matte Black with Lime Green.
