Double tapping the gas pedal.

Is there something that Porsche engineers designed into this method? I have noticed that if I'm coasting at 30mph and I want to go into 3 rd gear from and idle rpm. There is a lag in the gas pedal to go from 1k to 3k. But if I tap it twice the rmp jump to 4k instantly after the second tap.

Is there something to this method or is my double taping just giving the engine more gas?
