My buddy has a '02 996.2 Targa. His engine lid is stuck. He drives the car few times a week so battery is good.

We tried the engine lid release button and pushing down the lid at the same time, nothing happens.

We tried the emergency cable release it didn't open the lid. Still nothing happens.

Mechanical latch manual and electrical works but the lid seems to be really stuck

Is there any other way?

TIA!!!

Ok, this sound to me like the lid is out of alignment, here's what I would try:
If you can get someone to help you, then one person needs to pull gentley on the release handle on the door pillar while the other gentley pushes the engine lid up and down and even side to side. This will often fix the problem and release the catch.

Once its released then adjust the catch so the plunger is more directly over the center of the latch mechanism so it doesnt happen again. Double check to make sure everything is lubricated before you re-shut the engine lid, including checking the cable that's pulling the release latch which should move freely and easily.

Hope this helps

I agree with FLA996 usually pulling the release while moving the lid side to side is the best bet.

Gonzo911 will become famous soon enough
He may need new struts. They wear out and there is not enough resistance to pop the deck when the latch is released. Like FLA and ECS said, don't push down, lift up.
