Is royal purple the best oil to use?
I'm sure I am beating a dead horse but whatever I'll be the guy to give it one more whack. Is royal purple my best option for oil and if not which is recommended the most?

"Joe Gibbs Driven DT40...designed for Porsche engines by LNE and Flat6 Innovations."
Yeah! they all know Porsche engines better than The manufacturer. Right?

Ogun I know exactly what you're saying and thought that myself at first but, Porsche or any manufacturer at that fact doesn't produce oil, they produce cars. They "recommend" the best oil to use. A manufacturer of oil can specifically make a oil to suit a specific type of motor. I am sure the oil is better for the motor just as I am sure the "recommended" oil also is.

Sure if you want 2 b a guinea pig. Why change from tried and true to probably and maybe? Long term effects are unknown. I have 2 admit that I'm an advocate of leaving a P car stock beside trims. Although expensive, I stick 2 N-rated tires, Porsche approved fluids and parts. I have only swapped my audio system for a Nav but have kept all parts for the next owner if I ever decide to sell. I'm biased, I know, but like most owners, I'm in it for the long term and I trust the manufacturer.

I know what you mean and you can't go wrong with following the guidelines printed for service. I can't nor want to argue that fact. I am a person that believes there is just as good, if not better. Porsche buys their fluids from outside vendors and prints their name on the bottle for a higher price. So, when it comes to brake fluid and what not I will use the comparable product to Porsche cause it's probably the exact same thing. I love Porsche in which ever shape or form I find it in. I am a true follower and I don't discriminate to moding it or keeping it stock.

Please go to the LNE and Flat6 Innovations sites. what we have to consider is that "recommended oils" are typically those manufactures that have paid $$$ for that distinction. M1 IMO although the initial fill oil is not the best suited for these high revving engines, and if DT40's not for you there are lot's of other approved oils that will work, A40 Spec is what to look for.

To give you the answer you are looking for, I ran royal purple in all my previous cars with zero issues. I actually thought the motor ran smoother and idled better than mobil 1. Many people claim it is too "thin" which seems a rather common review.

And for Royal Purple, it doesn't even make it onto my top five for the 996.
I run Redline 5w40, would use Joe Gibbs without worry, any of the German full ester synthetics, or mobil 5W40 in a pinch.
