Rebuild transmissions in the Bay Area

As some of you may know, my 996 Targa with 86k miles is experiencing shifting problems, mainly in first and second. And after bringing him to the dealership for an inspection, the technician narrowed the problem down to the 1st and 2nd gear synchros. To rebuild the transmission at the dealership is roughly 5k +, BUT it does come with a 2 year warranty.

Now its between going to the dealership or to any indy shop, which will probably cost me less.

Could anyone direct me to a good indy shop out here in the bay area that can perform a good transmission rebuild.

I just recently came across Kahler's in Dublin, has anyone heard about them?

Thanks

I'm looking for a transmission solution in the Bay Area as well. There is a place in Colorado that does a ton of rebuilds (some places in the Bay Area send gearboxes there) called Gbox. http://www.gboxweb.com/

I'm considering pulling the gearbox myself and sending it to Gbox.

my advise buy the parts remove tranny and take to a tranny shop..dont say its a porsche tranny..probably can have it done for less than 1k...btw 997 trannys ive seen on ebay for 2500..used..they are stronger than 996

www.ebay.com%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F182729643587 check this out for 996

lookingforanusp is an unknown quantity at this point
I'm taking mine down to LA. There are a bunch of reputable shops down there.
Seems like a good time to fit a Wavetrac too
