"" Door latch issue ""

I have an 996 1999, this part is faulty, I bought another door latch from ebay from another 99 carrera, how ever my mechanic tells me that this part needs to match the vin number of my car because they look the same but works differently and i could maybe lost my money

The question is, Are this Door latch are interchangeable without any vin number programation or something like that?

I used to have a vw and they were pretty similar and the part was interchangeable without any Vin number requirement

Are you talking about the door latch actuator? If so, I know they are left door and right door specific.

I actually do not know if the actuator has to be VIN specific for it to work. I do not see why it would have to be though. Perhaps someone with information on this part will volunteer some information for you. Good luck.

The parts fits perfectly, in case the string doesn't clip in the panel, just replace the string of the door latch with the old one ....

The Door latch are interchangeable 99/00 only the metal string changes and is interchangeable also.
