Wanting a 996... with a LSx!!!
Always been a fan of the early 996 generation, especially the Carrera 4 cars with factory Aero kit.
Was the narrow bodied Carrera 4 available in the 2002-04 generation? I much prefer the earlier cars for the first generation GT3 style aero kit, but figured i'd keep an eye out for the right donor chassis.
It would be nice to buy a complete car and enjoy it as Porsche originally intended (selling a working engine will probably help offset some cost).
Knowing that the engine will eventually be swapped for a LSx down the road (probably LS3), is there really anything i should look for? How do the AWD systems hold up?
How much is a factory Aero kit should the donor car not have one? Im sure a C4 with Factory Aero is somewhat of a rarity...
Very much looking forward to this project as it will probably replace my MKV R32 as my daily driver assuming all the bugs get worked out!

A member in San Diego is selling his LS1-swapped '99 C2.
To your other questions: Yes, the narrow-body C4 was available from '99-'04. The AWD systems are quite stout, they seem to hold up to the power of the Turbo and Turbo S just fine.
The factory Aerokit Cup (GT3-style) will run you about $6k new.

Glad to hear the AWD systems are beefy. I suppose finding a car with the Aero kit already fitted might be worthwhile...

Save yourself the time and money and buy my car.
Use the saved money for a big cam and you will be ahead of modded turbo cars.
Otherwise, I think I saw a C4 roller in Colorado on rennlist with an aero kit, but the front bumper was destroyed.
