Question about jacking...?
Hi All,
I have a question about jacking up my car to work on it.
When I have to jack the car and have it level, I drive the rear up ramps. I then jack a front side of the car high enough to put a jack stand under the other side. I have only had to do this once....and I was not sure if that twisting moment on the car is OK.
So, what say you folks - OK or not OK? I just wish I could afford a lift...that would be awesome.
Thanks,
Ray

When I do a tandem ram and jack I usually use 2 jacks. Front 2 wheels up the ramp then I put a floor jack on the rear left and another one on the rear right. Then I try to simultaneously lift the rear (Maybe 3-4 pumps per jack at a time). When I get to the desired height, that's the tine insert the 2 jacks stands. In that way I avoid the twisting. Just MAKE SURE you're really on a flat surface and your front wheels on the ramps are secured and won't roll off. Hope this helps.

I must not be making myself clear because there is no safer way than to get under a car in which the two wheels are on ramps and jack stands are under the two front jack points - with the jack itself under the front the car as a backup. The ramps cannot fail or tip over - the jack backs up the jack stands.
