just bought a 2000 911...what a fun car! from an m3 guy
Ive had 4 m3's in the last 10 years. 3 e46 and 1 e92 m3.
I just picked up a 2000 porsche 911 with 56k miles convertible...what a fun car! Even my wife is amazed at how smooth the ride is.
I also just ordered depo tail lights from Europe. Once the led's are installed a full double din is going into the car.
Any other inexpensive mod suggestions?
the car seems to have an old school alpine nav that was installed by the 1st owner (i bought from the second owner).

Welcome and congratulations!! It looks like you found a beauty. I would consider a Non Smokers Kit and LED Lighting Kit. For more information Click Here. Enjoy, you have a great looking car.

Congrats and welcome. I would suggest upgrading your mufflers to Fister D sport mufflers (assuming you don't have Porsche Sport Exhaust or some other aftermarket exhaust). It's an inexpensive mod to your existing mufflers that makes the car sound great.

Looks great enjoy it!
I just did the same thing this summer - picking up an '02 C4 Cabrio. I was a BMW guy since '98 and had 6 of them. So far I have wrapped my car frozen sky blue, lowered on H&R and added spacers.

i recommend an exhaust if you don't have one already
quality of the car is much better than m3. however performance is about at par with e46 m3. hope you don't have any rattles from the top. they tend to make noises that are hard to fix.
yours don't have PSM. i would be careful driving in rain. the car needs to be driven correctly (slow in, fast out) if you push the car to its limits. this is a less forgiving car compare to m3's.

On a track or a canyon road, maybe performance of both cars is at par. But as an everyday car, the E46 M3 is a pretty awful package. That BMW 6 speed tranny is quite ****ty (broomstick shifter anyone? SSKs aren't much better. Even after the CDV delete, the thing never quite shifts smoothly), the driveline shunt is outrageous, and the overstrung 3.2 straight six was always so rushed. The E46 build quality was pretty poor as well, with RTABs, guibos and a myriad of bushings needing frequent replacement. Those ignition coils were poor, vanos bolts were a known failure, I can go on.
The 996 on the other hand, has the best 6 speed tranny, probably of all cars. The clutch action and take-up are near perfect. The torque curve is flat, and that makes driving it in everyday life so much easier. It's MUCH smaller, physically, and that makes a world of difference.
Ride quality - I think both are pretty poor, to be honest. I guess it's what you bargain for, when you buy a sports car, so no complaints, but definitely not a smooth ride.

Looks great. Besides what you said about the tail lights....I would leave it as is. Very nice car!! Congrats!! I did not do too many upgrades. My wheels had to go though...
Former 3 time BMW owner also..........still miss my E46.
Last one I traded in for for 996:
