I have a '99 C2 (narrow body? - not sure) and I'm planning to upgrade the old original OEM rims and tires. I tried browsing through the 996 picture thread but got more confused due to the many options and sizes.

Currently my tire configuration is:

Front rim 17 / 205 / R50 series
Rear rim 17 / 255 / R40 series

Can I do...

Front rim 18 / 235 / R40 series
Rear rim 18 / 265 / R35 series

Will these tire size configuration fit my 99 C2?

What do you guys think of these design in ebay?

spend some more money if i were you or you will be dealing with cracked and bent rims, i would steer well clear of those

 

You need to be mindful of tire sizes and wheel offset. The following will fit your car properly per Porsche recommendations:

225/40 ZR 18 (front) tires
265/35 ZR 18 (rear) tires
7.5x18, 50mm offset (front) wheels
10x18, 65mm offset (rear) wheels

You may have to use spacers for different offsets. You may encounter rubbing issues with wider tires and wheels or with large discrepancies in offset. You should be able to use a 8x18 wheel with a 50 or 52mm offset in the front without an issue.

Currently using 225 40ZR 18 front and 295 40 ZR 18 rear in Fiske rims for DE track use - no fitment problems on my 99 996 NB car

 

My car is a 2002 C4S, which is a wide body car. I'd be happy to post a photo, but I don't think it will show you what you want to see.

I am not running the sizes I listed above - those are from the most recent Porsche TSB regarding proper wheel and tire size.

 

those are not good fitment for a 996

 

I like these , they should look real good on a lowered car. 19" not sure how well the offsets would work .

Welcome to the group and as far as wheels and tires go, check with the professionals like Tire Rack or Wheel Dynamics. They both have a great selection of wheels and tires combinations. Call them and they can give you the best bang for your buck Good luck...

 

Regardless of the rim style, stick with 18 inch rims. Tires are cheaper and more available. Just my opinion. I got a decent set of rims off TireRack. Kinda a modern look of the turbo rims and perfect fit. Again....rims and tires are a personal choice....out here with 19" rims....I would have serious issues on the Colorado roads. Also, you have to look at weight and performance things. Too many variables to talk about here. But...this is classic and what I went with.

Searching around fond this look that I kinda like. Is it as simple as installing the rims and tires to achieve this EXACT look or are there other steps to take e.g. lowering springs, change shock absorbers, spacers etc?

 

Absolutely. They will sell you a quality product and be able to advise you on correct fitment. Ebay wheels are typically poorly made in China, prone to cracks, super heavy, and may not fit. There's a reason why they are cheap, and Porsches are sensitive to cheap wheels.

 

stick with 18"s. I just made the mistake of trying to do 19's and am in the process of unwinding a very expensive decision. You can look for GT3 ties/wheels sizes. Those are about as aggressive as you can safely get with the NB coupes.
