looking for a C4S, a couple questions
New to the forum and had a few questions regarding a possible C4S purchase,
1. Why do some C4S rear deckled badges use a red S and others use a grey S?
2. When the C4S comes with the factory aero kit, does that delete the rear deckled badge?
3. The age old Tip versus stick in these particular 911's? I would love to hear both sides!
4. Are there any years that are better in the 996 for the C4S variation of the 911?
Thanks and I just wanted to say that I love getting lost in this forum, there is a lot of info!

Here are my answers to your questions:
1. The factory "S" is grey. Some people exchange it for a red one because they like the way it looks.
2. The factory aero kit is quite rare, and I believe it does delete the rear deck lid badge.
3. This is a matter of personal preference. I personally prefer a manual transmission in the C4S, but some people prefer the Tiptronic. If the automatic option was PDK instead of Tiptronic, then it might be a more difficult decision for me.
4. The 996 C4S was made from 2002 - 2005. There were very few changes in the production run. Here are the changes that I recall:
- 2002 cars use an analog stereo system, so it's easier to upgrade. The 2003 - 2005 cars use the MOST fiber optic ring which is a little more difficult if you plan to change or modify the stereo.
- C4S cabriolet cars were only available in 2004
- Sport Techno wheels were only available in 2004 and 2005
- PCCB (Porsche Carbon Ceramic Brakes) brakes were only available from the factory in 2005
- I believe Litronic HID headlights were standard in 2002 and optional from 2003 - 2005. I know this was true for the C2 and C4, and I think so for the C4S also. That being said, it would be difficult to find one without HID lights.
- The X51 power kit was available for all years, but it's not common.
- Some 2002 cars equipped with PSE (Porsche Sport Exhaust) do not have a button on the dash to deactivate the system. Later cars with this option have the button on the dash.
- There were some interior color options that changed over the production run. For example, I don't think the Terracotta interior was available in 2002.
That's all that I can remember right now - but I'll post more if I think of anything.

Good catch. They were an option. The GT3 wheels look very good on the C4S.

Thanks for all the incredible info Dennis C!!! Hours of internet searching and you summed it up in a forum post. Thanks again!
One more question, do the C4S 911's from 2002-2005 have the same issue with the IMS and RMS as the standard Carrera? I can't seem to find an answer to that one.
Thank you so much and this forum is really just great IMHO!

Yes, bornrich has it right. The 996 C4S engine is exactly the same as the C2 and C4 engines, so the IMSB and RMS issues are possible. There are aftermarket IMSB parts and updated RMS parts that minimize risk. The turbo and GT3 cars have the Metzger engine, and that eliminates these issues.

I have them and still think about switching back when I see pics of them. Go pick up a C4S. You will not be disappointed!

looking for a C4S, a couple questions
I have a 2004 C4S Cab. The C4s Cab was only made in 04 and 05. Mine is rare in that it has the X51, PSE an aluminum package for the air vents, gauges, shift ****, ebrake, and full leather. If you have not found one yet, hold off and keep waiting and looking. I feel these are the best looking 996's out there. We love our car and plan to keep it for a very long time. We looking all over the country for a C4S and there were very few on the market when we started our search and finally purchase. We have invested some $$$ in it right away with new tires, the water pump went out within the first month and the top needs to be replaced in the next season. So be prepared to spend some money on a 10 year old car but we don't regret a thing. We love the way it looks, drives, handles and the fun we have every time we take it out. Good luck in your search.
