Ticking noise from the engine
My car recently has been getting a ticking noise when in neutral. It was not existant before and it recently started to happen couple weeks ago. Has anyone had this issue before or know where it is coming from.

It could be a number of things, try to isolate the location, this will give you a place to start. If it turns out to be scoring you can have the cylinders sleeved. But you need to find out the cause, which is usually a bad ring or some contaminate in the oil. Not to alarm you, but do you have the original IMS bearing? If so you need to check the oil for metal, and I wouldn't drive it until you find out what is causing the ticking.
Other things it could be:
variocam actuator.
faulty lifter.

It just stopped as of now so lets see what happens next. I recently replaced the clutch and decided to do the IMS solution. How much labor is required if my issue seems to be cylinder.

If it is a cylinder issue it's $$ as you have to tear down the engine, but my guess is that if it stopped it's not a cylinder issue. What weight oil did they use and are you topped off? Again, if you hear it put you ear to it.
I would contact FlatSix Innovations and discuss with Jake.

Wow expenses are racking up so quick with this 996 lol. I used Mobil one 5w 40 and I have about 8 bars out of 9 on the oil so far. Could it be the belt by any chance or something that can create any squeaky noise.

If it Stops and Comes its possibly your Lifters which is Common, have it looked at for a Sticky Lifter.

I agree, go back to 0w-40 and keep your oil topped off, the bar meter is showing you are a tad low. The bar meter measures the amount of oil not the life, and fyi, all the bars combined = 1 quart so you're about 1/9 a quart low, but for accuracies sake use the dip stick, but keep it topped off and DO NOT under any circumstances use any oil additive.

Ok that sounds good thanks guys, but why not use the oil additive. The dealerships where i go for an oil change always recommend i must get the oil additive saying its beneficial for the engine.

What are they adding? I know of no dealer that recommends an additive.

From the owners manual:
Porsche engines are designed so that no oil additives may be used.
If a dealer is using an additive I would find out why, if you are worried about the oil, change it more often, I do mine every 5k or 4 months which ever comes first.

Exactly. Not on a Porsche. My advice, for what you paid for it, is that anytime you hear a strange noise from the engine - take it in and have someone tell you what it is. If you are asking on a forum what a noise is that we can't hear you may not be the best one to diagnose a valve or other noise before it becomes an expensive problem. I too would be running 0W 40.
