Clogged drain

While I was removing my wheels to paint them, I noticed a small leak coming down from one of the wheel wells. I've read about clogged drains being annoying issues on 996s and Turbos so I took peek. Sure enough, it was clogged. For newbies like myself, I've posted pics to help. The red arrows show where the bolts are to uncover the drain. The star is where the drain is located behind the covering.

Hi Porschemama, The photo looks like a cabriolet like mine. The drain you show is on the pass/side. My PS drain leaked a lot of fluid which I traced to the C-top hydraulic cylinder . . . ended up replacing the cylinder. Might be worth checking . . . I could look at the bottom of the cylinder by simply removing the rear speaker in the side panel. Good luck, have fun . . . Larry

Madwhip, I'd bet that the rear wheel well drains on the 996T are behind the fender covers just like on my 1999 996 C2 Cab.

Here's a few threads I used to get a quick 411 and get acquainted with my Pcar, with pics:

Hi Larry, please call me Marie. Sometime I regret choosing that username

Will do, thanks for looking up. Any special tools to get to the rear speakers?

Hi Marie, The only tool used to remove the speakers is a Torx screwdriver, not sure of the size, #8 or #10. I checked the threads you posted and then checked my P-car. Thanks to your post I found a whole bunch of 'schmutz' (auf deutsch) plugging the front DS drain and the PS rear drain (behind the speaker). Thank you, thank you, thank you . . . your post saved me a whole lot of anguish, time and MONEY! The wife and I had the car out for a 4 hour drive, beautiful, top down weather here in western WI! No prob, glad to help. I tend to take detailing to a whole new lelvel

Seriously though, I bought this 10 year old car with my eyes wide open, knowing and budgeting an amount of work or schmutz to be done. I'm all for saving money too-- already saved $100k by skipping the 991 and getting the same thrill. Glad you two are enjoying some quality time together!
