996 C4S - New to Me. Wish it had PSE ...
6 speed members,
Just picked up an '02 C4S and couldn't be happier (Sold my BMW 1M Coupe for it!). The car was in fantastic shape with the right kind of owner, full service history and low mileage. Only downside is the one option I wish it had was the PSE.
I have a good friend at a reputable Porsche dealer and he recommended their own exhaust which has similar bypass pipes as the PSE system, so I went ahead and had it installed. After a couple of drives I am not sure if I am convinced.
The stock exhaust had a nice underlying edge that was a little too muted. I was looking to give it a little more of an edge, but the new PSE hack exhaust sounds a little too flappy, deep and lost that nice Porsche rasp especially in the mid-range. I also found that it overpowers that gorgeous flat 6 engine/intake noise and you just get a loud exhaust note.
Does the PSE system with the valves open still have that nice rasp, or does it have that flappy sound between 3000 to 4500rpm that I am getting with my hack?
Rather than going through a few exhaust systems I would rather just go ahead, swallow the bill and put on the PSE (it would probably be cheaper in the end run and avoid a lot of headaches!). Any suggestions?
I know there are a lot of options out there, but it is very tough to beat a team of hundreds of German engineers working under one roof ...

just take it to muffler shop and have they do the PSE mod on your existing mufflers. the mod is daily drivable without pissing off the neighbors. my local muffler shop did them for $75 a piece. i heard others around the country have had it done for even cheaper.

The Fister mod was the best thing that I did to my old 996 C4S. It sounded fantastic. I don't really know what you mean by "flappy", but I can tell you that the Fisters have a wonderful deep growl at lower RPM and a very nice rasp as the revs increase. I wish my 997 turbo sounded as good as my 996 C4S.
