My first 911

My first 911
Cross posting this from Rennlist. I used to frequent (stalk) this forum when I had my M5 but rarely posted. Here it goes:
Well, I was hoping to start an awesome thread loaded with pictures of my new 2000 911, but alas, I've just made it home. So, some details first:
2000 911 C2
6 speed
124k
Gray interior
Clean PPI, owned by former PCA member.
I got a pile of maintenance paperwork and a very thorough PPI done by a reputable shop, so I sent the seller a deposit last week and flew from Chicago IL to Birmingham AL, yesterday morning. I arrived in Birmingham at 11:50 AM and the seller picked me up at the airport and brought me to his house which was only 10 minutes away. We pulled up and I saw the car in the driveway and immediately knew I couldn't possibly leave without it!
Took it for a test drive down some awesome twisty roads for about 8 minutes and sped back to finish the deal. We shook hands and off I went, I had an 11.5hr drove back to WI.
First pit stop because it only had about 1/2 tank. It was 54* and sunny..
First pit stop for fuel and a leg stretch:
And then... Illinois :grr:
Cars were going in the ditch left and right, almost got smoked by an F250, and I nearly joined the ditch crowd before deciding that wrecking my brand new-to-me 911 would really suck, so I stopped at the creepiest motel I've ever seen. $49.99 a night and a heater unit that kept the room at a brisk 49*...
At this point I have covered approximately 440 of the 822 miles to get back home..
This morning:
Impromptu 997 headlight conversion!!!!!
I was so glad to leave the motel alive I had to snap a pic:
200 miles later and the snow came back.. I stopped at some random rest area and talked to an older gentleman who admired the car and my "desire" to drive it in this weather
And this is proof they don't melt:
I ended up making it home at approximately 4:30 PM the day AFTER I picked up the car. It was a long drive, some of it was pretty scary, but overall I think I grew to love the car perhaps a bit more having nearly spun out 15 times on the highway! I must say, these stock seats are actually very comfortable

Got it cleaned up last night
Now I'm trying to think of what direction to take it. I like the GT3 RS wings and GT3 wheels, but I also like mesh wheels and the ducktail spoilers... So many options!

Thanks everyone! This weekend I'll be removing the bumper to clean out the radiator space and hopefully pull the heater core to remove the dreaded disintegrating foam.. I would love to have heat in my car

Mmmmm White pcar (Homer Simpson voice), might have to wrap mine after seeing this.
Great story & photos, there can be no better way to get to know your car than an 11.5 hour drive home. Im sat here 7:55am at work sharing this with a work colleague.
How 'hairy' was the journey in the snow?

The drive home was great, up until the snow. Then it got really, really sketchy.. There were cars passing me in the left lane, only to spin out 40 yards down the road and end up in the ditch.. I was maxed out at 30 MPH in 3rd gear because if I hit the gas the back end would just start sliding out.
Even the next morning after the snow plows had gone through and hit the major highways there were patches of ice everywhere. Going under bridges I would hit two patches of ice where the tire tracks were, good for a little rear end pucker every single time!

Awesome post man and congrats on the pick up, looks like a great car!
I enjoyed your journey - i had planned to do something similar when i bought my 911. I bought mine in Green Bay, WI in December so i likely would've been dealing with similar weather - after reading this, i am glad i opted to have mine shipped
Once again - congrats and enjoy your new toy!
