What is wrong with the 996?

They worked out perfect. I've got them for autocrossing. Was thinking about getting them powdercoated at some point. Thanks again for taking the effort to ship them.

You confirmed that the 4C S actually exists. Thanx
Here is my ride in question. I like the head lights BTW
Bought it used with 48K on the dial. It has been driven from Houston to TN (one way) and from TN to Miami there and back. Now has 47K on the dial...
Factory Aeri Kit Carbon Fiber trim New Tint and tunes..MB Quart 4s in the dash and rear, factory subs in doors and 8 inch Sub in back...

Sharp looking automobile. Unique color that reminds me of a coral color available in later 964s. Only saw one, ever.
We should all keep in mind I suppose that, if all anyone on the road sees of you is your tail lights, then they can't really critique your headlights, can they?

I am in West Australia and here the stigma of headlamps and ims isn't an issue to the everyday person. To everyone it's a Porsche 911 and gets heaps of looks and respect. Honestly in the forums the IMS anf headlight issue has been flogged to death and it's the forums which are hurting the cars more than anything. Constant negativity. The internet is full of itabout everything. I stay away from these forums because they make me feel like **** about the car. After a few days of driving I forget and the car rewards me and I love it again.

I just think that if the people that have had a good experience with their cars don't get online and post then before too long the 996 forum will be just about all the problems. Its great if you want a 996 to be worth nothing. We are really only hurting ourselves. I mean I know these cars genuinely can have issues but so do a lot of cars. The mechanic which has looked after my car it's whole life and has been servicing Porsches for decades has only ever seen one IMS failure and that was on a boxster. He said the cylinder issue was much more common in his experience. Enjoy your cars boys and girls they are great. For a 17 year old car I love how mine drives and I think it looks great. I especially like the side profile. Most people here in Australia still think it's worth a fortune too ha ha

I've had my 2003 C4S for three years now and have put 7k on it, it's not my DD. The only thing I've done is change the oil and filters. I installed the LNE spin on filter adapter and put on H&R sport springs, it's been a great car for me.

All good points---and yet, let us keep in mind that NONE of these points are, in the grand scheme of things, substantially important. They are largely (but for IMS) minutiae on the level of historical battle re-enactors questioning whether their cartridge belt is 1854 issue, or 1855 after they switched to nickel fasteners blah blah blah...
We enjoy our cars because we enjoy them. NONE of us own them because Porsches are the most cost effective, best mileage vehicles that are great for towing a boat, or carrying a steamer trunk full of clothing, or a dead deer on the roof from a hunting trip. NObody reads this stuff outside of us car geeks---and, if anyone is worried that carping about IMS is going to hurt resale on their 10 year old car, then they might want to spend more time building their portfolio on something more substantive than a used car.
Only poseurs are going to buy a 'Porsh' based upon what they heard about a given model. If IMS, funny headlights, pricey parts and replacing the rear tires every ****ing 12,000 miles on a C4S (ask me how I know) are going to scare them away----good riddance.
More underpriced cars left for the rest of us, who all came to the party after seeing that first Viper green 911 hurtle past while riding our bikes, or got a ride in Uncle Ned's 928 at a family wedding, or envied the rich kid at college with the graduation gift 944: Whatever it was, we all decided, "I have GOT to have one of those someday." Few of us care that the next door neighbor's new C7 is faster, or an acquaintance's Ferrari is flashier, or the senior partner's Bentley Continental can seat four ACTUAL people. We have what we want.
Until we want a better one. Which is always...

Ask me in another 11,000 miles, as I've put around 2000 on the current set since January when I bought mine.
By my recollection from two prior C4S's, 18,000 will likely be the outside edge of what you see from a set of rears. My guess? You'll be done at 16k.
Someone/anyone with more experience and wisdom, please chime in and correct me.

I drive my 04 C4S Cab daily and that's about right on the rear tires as far as mileage. I can hear my wife asking me once again "Didn't you just put tires on there" hahahahaha
