Yellowed headlight restoration

Hi folks,

I know this topic has been discussed quite a bit, but I couldn't find the answer to my specific question about this in a search.

I bought one of those fine-grit sand, polish, seal kits, but I have a question about the headlights on my 996.2 C4S -

My C4S has a circular "chrome" piece in the middle - I'm pretty sure sanding/polishing that isn't a good idea?

Photo example: http://www.sportsandclassic.com/images/headlight.jpg

What's the best way to restore my headlights without destroying that chrome finish? Mask it off with tape? Is there an easy way to pop that cover off?

Easier just to tape them. One less thing to worry about breaking.
I made a video when I did mine

You'll need some UV protection to keep them from yellowing again. There are several different brands available in spray-on can applicators.

Anyone living in the Tampa Bay area, Reeves is running a special $150.00 to bring the headlights back. Mine are in good shape but I'm going to get it done to remove the scratches from road debris.

I used Dr. Headlight service for my 996. They did a nice job.

Ah, thanks for the tip - my kit came with a "sealer", but i've read you need to reapply this every few months anyway. Is the UV protection you mentioned different? Does that also require a reapplication every few months?

It's not really different, although I would expect it to last for about a year. Pep Boys sells a few brands. I also use car wax on my headlights on a regular basis to give them some protection.

You can also just cover the headlight with film. I used Xpel. This not only filters UV but also protects against scratches and stones.
