996 Carrera Emblem Placement

Sorry if this is a duplicate thread from somewhere in the bowels of this forum, but does ANYONE know the proper placement of the Carrera script on the rear decklid of the 996? I've seen it centered at the top and the bottom of the decklid (either above or below the "bulge/depression" -- see photo above).

Google Porsche 996 images--there are plenty of both examples. Why the inconsistency? How do they come from the factory? Is a dog's mouth cleaner than a human's? Anyone?

The emblem mounted lower is traditionally found on the mk1 models while the upper can be seen on mk2 models. I've seen some mk2 models with lower placement but unsure whether trunk was original to that car.

Where you place the emblem depends on which emblem you buy. On the emblem for the lower part (2002+ models), the top of the "C" sticks up a bit to fit the contours of convex part of the decklid. If you get this emblem, you can't install it on the upper part of the decklid. I'm not sure the emblem for the upper part is even available anymore. I replaced my black emblem with a silver one in 2005 and I think I got one of the last ones for the upper part of the decklid.

My 99 996 C2 wears her badge on the upper position. The badge transfers to the lower position in the event of a spoiler wing. I believe the 996 2002+ badge is placed in the lower position regardless of spoiler wing or not.

Here's mine on my C4S, if this helps. Cheers

I think we were talking about non C4S models here. I don't think you can get much lower badge placement in a C4S unless you wanted to place it on the reflector part.

My '02 C2, with original engine lid, original paint and emblem placement, has the script in the lower position.

Cheers.

It seems to be all over the place. Maybe it depends on if Hanz or Franz installed the rear emblem or if it was installed on a Monday when workers were still hung over.

Upper placement on mine too, a '99 C4.

When it's time to repaint rear deck lid, I might consider going with the "new retro" 356/991 style PORSCHE lettering without the other stuff:

I don't like that. One of the most iconic cars beside the VW Beatle and the Mini and they feel you have to explain what it is. "Oh I didn't realise you've been living under a rock for the last 50 years....well it's a Porsche, no actually it's a 911, yes that's right as the badge says it really is a Carrera" ......face palm

Mine is a Mk1 C2 but I went with a "911" emblem placed on the lower position. Looks good. Pics later.
