997 oem short shifter on a 996?

Hello members, anyone knows or have tried an oem 997 short shift kit (part# 99742498300) on your 996? Some sources online state that it will fit just right on but I would like to be sure before I buy, my car just turned 55k miles and it seems to feel a little loose lately, appreciate your comments or feedback, thanks

It will work as Fla996tt said.

If you don't care as much about short throw and would rather have maximum refined feel, then you could just get a regular stock 997 shifter. If a short throw matters to you then you'll want 997 ssk.

thats what we all upgrade to...997 ssk. my car came with the factory short shifter, meaning that it was shorter than the regular version, but not short throw range. changing to the ssk changed all of that so that it has a total throw of about 2.5 to 3 inches and feels like a rifle bolt. you will love it........

I think I'm looking for both scenarios, not sure why but the current one just feels a little loose, appreciate your advise, thanks

Thanks for your comments, I can't hardly wait to see how it feels after the install.

No, just transfer your **** and boot to the 997 shifter. I did this a few weeks ago. The immediate feel is that it is quite a bit shorter and better. Now I don't even notice and it just feels like it should have always been.

The reason why short shifters come as an option is some guys not used to short shifters doesn't have a quick enough left foot for the clutch disengagement in aggressive driving. This allows synchros to grind and prematurely wear out. Make sure to readjust your left foot clutch action accordingly.

I just did exactly that and I love it. Pretty easy to do the swap too. Followed the Pelican Parts tutorial. Took about an hour, most if the time trying to figure out how to get the center console back on (move the seats back and lay as flat as possible to get clearance).

I does make a big difference although I think I'll need to do some fine tuning, do you have a good indi shop in Austin you might recommend?

OEM 997 shifter in a 996 is an excellent swap. I think the SSK is a bit "notchy".
