Kind of an offbeat question about paint.

So, let's say one were thinking about a respray of their 03 C4S, roughly how much paint would it take? Let's assume everything that's easily visible would be getting resprayed (so all the obivous body panels, under side of F/R bumpers, engine bay) but not going so far as to pull up carpets, spay up underneath wheel liner liners, stuff like that.

Again, just curious as to a ballpark estimate...2 gallons?, 5?, 10? less? more?

Never painted a Porsche but other cars. Your question isn't that specific as you're not clear in if you just mean the basecoat only or with clear coat and primer/sealer if doing a color change. Basecoat will require activator and reducer to e mixed in which further dilutes and technically provides more paint than the gallon or quart you have initially.

I would say you should be able to paint all said parts with less than a gallon of base before mixing in the reducer/activator. Clear coat would be dependent on how many coats you wanna apply. This doesn't account for candy/pearl paints .

Thanks for the reply, truly was just looking for a rough idea of basecoat, so you've given a good starting point to estimate from.

Starting to think about a respray and one of the non-Porsche colors I was looking at is a 3 stage paint and includes a set amount of reducer, midcoat, and clearcoat to achieve the "default" finish/look for the paint based on the amount of base color you order.

Always get extra base coat, and it depends on the quality of the base, and what color you are changing it from, and going to. Some colors and brands cover more with less product. At minimum a gallon of unreduced base for an all over job. Paint color will vary greatly from different purchases, so I have learned to get more for mistakes and future needs.

Thanks for the info, much appreciated. Mostly, I wanted to have at least some ballpark info for materials when I start getting quotes to gauge if a shop is trying to unreasonably pad out their estimate.

Once again it depends on what color you're changing to from initial color, paint brand and line, candy or pearl used or not, water based paint used or not, how many coats you request if different from factory. I know some people like to request additional clear so they can have enough layers to polish out all the orange peel and have a glass like show car finish and durability.

These all factor into the cost.
