In 2002 Porsche went to a Non-return fuel supply system, I think that is why you have a "missing line". You can install 3.6 heads on a 3.4 short block and the original DME will run it without any modifications.

I thought the same thing about installing the heads. But I think you would have to also swap out the chains. And I mite just swap the fuel rails while I'm at it and not need to worry about the fuel line problem.
My theory was that if the rear harness plugs into the forward harness just fine it should be able to work. And all I would have to do was plug all the lines into the engine. It would still be using an ECU for a 3.6 and the car should be fine. The ECU would run the variable cam and the vet. Of course I did not predict the fuel line problem. And I figured it mite not work but till I tried it out I wasn't gana know.
Now it's just plugging it in to see I just haven't taken off the 3.4 harness yet
Not going to work out that easily. You need to create the two wire CAN bus and then swap out to the 02+ instrument cluster and rewire it. There is a wiring guide. Also swap to 02+ HVAC and then try and figure out how to get the compressor to properly activate the clutch.
If you aren't electrically inclined I would move to a 02 chassis or find the proper 3.4L engine. Or to save costs could find a 3.2L from 986.

Already figured out a solution without having to touch the car itself. I asked a specialist and he told me that I can swap out the heads along with the fuel rails and the timing chain from the 3.4L and put them on my engine and I would essentially have a 3.6L that would work perfectly on my car with no modification to the car. I've already lined up another engine that's available to use is the donor. With fingers crossed it should go as planned.
is the update guys, new donor 996 with a 3.4 just got here. Bought it crashed on the front end and some mechanical damage from the accident. Going to start pulling everything off this weekend hopefully. And I'll be selling everything on the car if anyone is interested. Here's a pic

Sorry I haven't posted in a while just been a bit busy, but I am overjoyed to announce that I have completed the build and even mounted the engine last night. I'll post the details later today, but for now please enjoy the video below of the engine's first start up!
OK guys here's the update, sorry it took me so long but could not stop tinkering with the car once I got it going. The little mongrel swallowed 8 gallons of coolant and needed a few parts replaced. But she's burning rubber and roars like a pro now. Well to start off I had taken out the engine to find that the mechanical problem on the 3.4 was nothing serious, turned out it was missing because the solenoid for the air injection on bank one was bad. Not a problem considering the one on the 3.6 worked fine. After that it was just taking both of them apart and I simply replaced the heads from one to the other asking with everything that goes with it. When I went to swap the chains however I noticed it was going to be a little more difficult than I expected. So I sent the engine with all the posts over to a local specialist shop to do it. He told me everything fit almost perfectly bit he did have to adapt the chain tensioners for the extra chains the 3.4 has. He was able to do the job for me in about 3 days, and have me the block back with the chains fitted and ready to go. Once I got it back all I had to do was put the fuel rails and the heads from the 3.4 on the 3.6 block. It was actually fairly simple, there wasn't that much that needed to be changed our altered, and honestly the stuff that did was quite easy to do. All I did was rig a few hoses and that's about it, everything else literally feel into place like it belonged there. I did however have to completely swap out the radiator cooling tubes on the bottom, because the ones I had on there were different and wouldn't seal correctly. Took me a few days to put everything in bit it went quite smoothly. Some parts had to be replaced however. I ended up using the intake and throttle body from the 3.4 because the ecu for the 3.6 would not read it for some reason. Besides that it works fine. Been driving her for a week and the only thing that keeps going off is the O2 sensors, probably Gata swap those out too

This is exactly it actually, just had to swap everything for the variocam to fit the 3.4 body and adjust for the 5 chains and that's it. The ecm literally thinks it's a 3.4 but you got a bit more displacement, apparently you can even do this with a 3.8 and get the same results. A few more upgrades to the pistons and such and you mite be able to go even higher. But I don't have the money to try so I'm good with what I got lol
Formerfrost is how I found out about this 6speedonline. I bought a shift **** from him last week. The transaction was awesome, quick and painless. I will do business with him again if I have the chance.
