K&N Installed? Want More Power Now? Look Here!

Hey Guys!

Glad we have had a huge success with the K&N intake. If you want the most power on your 996 the best combination is to add exhaust, headers, and tie it all together with a good ECU reflash. If you dont have the exhaust or headers, I highly recommend going with Fabspeed. The Fabspeed will run you $895 shipped without tips and the headers $1295. Great sound, good HP gain as we have tested on our dyno. Here is the link to an Exhaust + Header dyno sheet we have done -
http://www.vividracing.com/catalog/i...6totaldyno.jpg

***HERE IS THE KEY***

Now that you have made good HP with the K&N intake and a good exhaust system, you need to tie in the parts together with a ECU reflash. Reflashing the ECU adjusts the factory fuel and timing trims. No soldering, nothing for dealers to see, and no overpriced costs from other softwares. If you have not heard of Upsolute, go there, www.upsolute.com. Vivid Racing is an authorized Upsolute tuner where we can flash your ECU on a MAIL IN or at our executive dyno facility.

The Upsolute Reflash is simple. We flash your ECU and gain you about 20 crank horsepower on your 3.6L or 3.4L 996 C2, C4, or C4S. This includes all Carrera models!

How do you send your ECU to us to be flashed? Easy Remove the stock ECU from your car. Located behind the rear seats, pull back the carpet, unscrew the metal plates, turn it over and unplug your ECU box. Package it in bubble wrap and put it in a Fedex Overnight box to us. Once we receive it, we will FLASH your ECU and OVERNIGHT it back to you. If you have questions on how to remove it, or ship it to us, just call me toll free! 1-866-44-VIVID x222

ONLY $695

ECU Flashing

Vivid,

Why is ECU Flashing so expensive? You see on ebay many places selling for $39 bucks. I beleive GIAC's is about $1000. How long does it take. If we live close by, could we wait for you to flash? Can it be flashed in the car?

You will never see it for $39.. even the flash on our EVO and STI's is $500. GIAC is $1100, quite expensive. The average price you see for VW, Audi, which is the same as the 996 software is around $500. So Porsche GIAC charges more. I am sure there is more to it, but all the files are written and just being loaded on to your ECU. Same with Upsolute. Your paying for software. Imagine your car is a computer and you went and bought Adobe Photoshop for $400 and loaded it on there. Same principle.

Flash takes 5 minutes to do. If you send the ECU to us, you will get it back in 1-2 days. Yes it can be flased in the car.

let me know!

What is the best way to compare various ECU flashes such as this one, GIAS, superchips, and others?

I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on a chip. So far I've decided that GIAC is the way I'm going. Unless I can be convinced otherwise.

Why don't Vivid and Evo step up to the plate? I have an 02 C2 that just had it's 30K service done and it has a clan bill of health. I currently have installed: Z-Tek headers, Z-Tek mufflers, and V-flow air box. I propose using my car as the test vehicle. Ill do a base line pull as the car is set up now. Vivid will send me their K&N intake and flash my ECU. I'll do another with just their K&N box, and then a run with with Vivid's flash. Then I'll swap back my EVO air box and reflash the ECU with GIAC software. I'll do another run - same dyno, same teck, as close to the same temp and weather, and any other variable we decide is valid. Then I'll post the results along with a seat of the pants driving impression. Whoever makes more power is the board champ and I'll buy their chip. If I need the K&N as evinced by the dyno run, I'll buy that too and put my EVO box up on e-bay.

Let's settle this once and for all.

Romano - I doubt they'd do that as both of these companies have been around for a while. It's not as if they're both brand new and trying to establish themselves. Since you can't do a search here, search other forums and read about other's impressions. There have been several dyno runs posted pre & post chips for each company

I think it just comes down to personal preference and which installer is closest to you. AFAIK, Upsolute is limited in that they can't really take you past a Stage 2 upgrade so if you're planning on going past that eventually, then (i think!) you should go with another tuner such as GIAC.
