Anyone have a lead on a used 996 engine?

I may be in need of one real soon. My engine looks like it has let go.

What year is yours?...you know all 996 engines are not interchangeable....and if you have e-gas, then it makes it easier....if you need a non e-gas engine (99 C2's) then you pretty much need that engine....

That is what I have been told by folks as well. It is when you get to a 3.6 that things get difficult since you have to now manage the Variocam +

Saw this one on eBay. The seller advertises often in Panorama.

If you're gonna spend the money on a reman'd unit, you need to get the Porsche unit. Its about 7800 from Sunset and has all of the updates and has a two year parts warranty, no matter who installs it. I've posted in your threads on Rennlist and Renntech about this.

If you can afford to have the car off-line for a while, you can get a nice reman'd unit from Autofarm in the U.K.

Viper,

Great tip on Sunset.... That is probably the best price I have seen.

Paul, the nicest thing about it is that Sunset is for real, unlike Brandywine. I spent a lot of extra time and money trying to save about 300 bucks by buying from Brandywine. Probably ended up costing me about 500 more and 2 extra weeks of hassle by trying to deal with Brandywine.

Suncoast couldn't get close to Sunset either. Email or call Jeff at Sunset. He took good care of me and is familiar with how to get the engines to where they need to be.

BTW, I looked high and low for a decent used 3.4. They just weren't out there to be had. I found one at Oklahoma foriegn but he wanted 4500 for an unknown mileage engine out of a burned car.

There's one w/ 50k miles on it for $5500 at http://www.gtmotorsport.net/index.ph...page=996+Parts

Don't know if it is a good deal or not, but the owner Larry is very friendly and will talk to you about it.

Seems it's not much more for a new one w/ warranty through Sunset- I'd probably suggest that route.
