Any Information regarding the weight of the front fenders ? Would there be any benifit from changing them to CarbonFiber or Carbon/Kevlar ?

Actual weight for the "lightest car" is not without its compications. The biggest variable will be the scales used for weighing. Recent calibration? Sensitive to light- weight cars or tractor-trailer rigs. I have seen a lot of variation from drag strip to drag strip as to the weight of some of my former racers. It's sort of first cousin to the engine and chassis dyno problems (variations from manufacturer to manufacturer).
One thing that could be eliminated as a variable would be to have everyone weigh with a full tank of fuel. This won't make the drag racers happy, but to use a subjective guess as to how much fuel is in the car introduces inconsistency. Gasoline has an approximate weight (subject to varying circumstances) of 6.25 lbs./gal. Should we make a requirement of a full tank of fuel for the posted weight? Only way to eliminate that particular variable IMHO. |

Down at a DE at PIR yesterday and got a chance to get on the scales. With me and my helmet on board and just over half a tank of gas we weighed 3460
gas =6.5 x 6 gallons= 39 lbs Helmet= 4 lbs me= 165 lbs So the total car weight works out to 3252 Lightening includes... RWD conversion LWFW Fabspeed exhaust spare and tools removed floormats and manual removed I have the standard power seats with rears, + sunroof I was pretty happy to already be this light. The Clubsport seats might get me below 3200

I removed the rear seats today and took the driveshaft seat belt latches off also. Total weight for seats and associated hardware was 22.1 lbs. I took several pictures during the process and will eventually post a how-to, if anyone is interested. I came up with some ways to lessen the harshness of the remaining holes without resorting to the Porsche rear seat removal kit. I am going to attempt to post a couple of pictures of the finished product.
I have no idea if you can enlarge these things or not. In preview mode it is opening Photo Bucket and enlarging it there, so I have no idea what it will do when I post this. ![]() ![]()

While in the process of removing the rear seats today, I had need to loosen the Bose sub woofer box so that I could hide the shoulder harness male fittings. I just went ahead and took the whole thing out and weighed it for those of you who hate the Bose system anyway and don't care about a lot of bass. I disconnected it and it was totally inadequate for me without it. Some may find it OK but being a bassist and guitarist , using the terms loosely, I would not be happy without it.
Total weight savings would be 12.2 lbs. BTW the box is designed to fire downward into a carpet underlayment, but the pulse waves off the back side of the speaker cone channel through a bass reflex type of porting system to come out through the two little holes on the front of the box. If the box is removed, there is nice carpeting underneath, and it actually looks just fine without the cabinet in place. |

+1 on the DIY, cant wait for that. So you are saying that with the subwoofer removal + rear seat removal will net 34lbs, that is something to consider. |

Just a hair over half a tank on the gauge, so 6 gallons is what I estimated, figuring 12 gallons for a full tank

I posted the details with pictures for removal of the rear seats. I put it on the 996TT/GT 2 forum and it was moved to the Tech/how to forum or something like that. It's way down towards the bottom of all the forums. I didn't even remember we had such.
Hope you find it helpful. al Quote:
