I am aware the GT-R is a good and fast car. I would think that a comparison with the 997 TT would be close. The numbers are very similar.
But please to claim the GT-R outperforms the GT2 I find just way too much reaching fantacy.
There have been rumors that the GT-R makes much more hp than stated. Does anyone know of any truth to that?

they're all pretty closely matched. IIRC, GTR matches GT2 lap time. if you listen to Chris Harris' comments on the GTR, its is crystal clear that the car gets its speed by going faster thru the corners, not in the straights. This isn't a horespower thing: GT2 was much faster at the end of the straight, but GTR made it all back by simply having better grip, being better planted and carrying more speed thru the turns.
this track is the Silverstone F1 track, and as you can see by the lay-out, it allowed the GT2 (and LP560) to flex its muscles. Tsukuba (in the BM video) is a track that doesn't allow high HP cars to stretch their legs nearly as much.
Chris Harris is also a Porsche guy thru-and-thru (regular writer at "GT Porsche" magazine, and has owned tons of Porsches), so no conspiracy theories here.
GTR is an effing fast car and forces Porsche and others to raise the bar. Let's get over it and move on
Hesperus said it all. Plus, in my heart I sincerely do NOT believe that the average GTR buyer is in the market for a new 997TT. They are looking at a Z06, which is a similar price point. The GTR is certainly a stellar performer and arguably the best sports car on the market for the money. However, if the 997TT and the GTR were the EXACT same price, would you really choose the GTR over the 997TT ? I know I would not. I like my carbon bits. I love being swathed in leather. I love the fact that Porsche Roslyn (Hi Lana and Luciano) knows me by name and attend to my service needs as if I matter. Not to diminish the success of the GTR and Nissan's excellent job in getting same to the marketplace, IMHO, if you can afford both, you would invariably choose the 997TT over the GTR. Period. End of story.

thanks, but just to add on the cross-shopping point...
on balance, i think you're right-- the ave GTR buyer is not in the market for the Turbo.
having said that, someone i know just traded-in his 997GT3RS for a GT-R (and yes, he got the GT-R plus cash from the grey market seller of the Nissan).
another person I know owns a tuned 997TT, but I believe may be much more excited about his new GTR than the Porsche
invariably, what I would term the hardcore car nuts, who have no particular brand loyalty (and have owned many different marques of cars, from Ferraris to Porsches to "lesser" brands) are excited about the GTR, because it is new, because it performs as it does, and because it reincarnates the "Godzilla" legend -- which of course is big in Japan, Australia and in many other place in the world, but not in America.
YES, if push came to shove and these people were asked to keep only ONE car, the GTR would probably not be it. But I truly fail to understand all the negativity towards the car, whether from Porsche or Vette forums, when it is clearly a hell of an achievement
ok, rant mode off
*caveat - the stories and specter of expensive tranny repairs on the car is definitely worth watching though... its not like PCCB gen1 and IMS/RMS failures aren't debacles in their own right... so Nissan won't have a monopoly on f*ck ups *
good AWD car.... or am i mistaken???? better grip???? AWD???

Let's hope Porsche and others do, or have the choice to actually raise the bar in these unpredicatable economic & ecological times.
The next gen GT2 needs to be far and away faster than any GTR, Vette, Viper so that there is NO doubt is is faster. But that is what I want, and that is my opinion. As far as which is an all around better car; build quality, engineering, etc...the Porsche...hands down.
Best motoring has been known for many years to have the most biased car reviews on the planet in favor of their own countries cars.
Anytime a GTR wants to come calling, I am ready to answer. This deal is BS.
I'll meet you anytime you want at Road Atlanta...should be in your favor with the long back straight...but the GT-R is gonna leave you between 1 & 7. Give me some R compound tires like the GT-2 (when they make them in 20's) and it won't be close.

Glad to see that one of you guys that owns a GTR has listened to enough and is ready to fight. Like that. You don't get to ask for other stuff when you have all wheel drive wanting to race on a specific track. It would be fun to race anyway. Isn't that why we are arguing now? Having fun and thanks for the spirited come back.
