Nissan cant win in GT2, that's why. The street GT-R chassy is no good for racing.
GT1 gives Nissan an escape from the monstrous chassy they built. Now they can build any tube frame car and slap a GT-R plastic cover on it and call it a GT-R though it's really no such thing.
But then again, Nissan is good at lying anyways so maybe they will convince the fanboys that really is a GT-R under there when it doesnt share one part.
In other words, NISSAN HAS NO CHANCE WHATSOEVER OF WINNING IN GT2 WITH THE GT-R CHASSIS, so they can make a whole new car and try to win GT1.

I know how it's really stupid to built a heavy car for racing. Nissan didn't really it's lesson on first R-34 and that thing was heavy.

There will be some new GT1 rules, but I'm still not sure what they are.
They (Nissan) are supposed to have the car built to the new regs, and will be working with a British team (unknown at this time) to develop the car in 09. There will be two customer cars fro 2010.
Hasnt most teams deserted GT1 in favour of GT2 where most manufacturers are and where it is more competitive?

Yep, GT1 is lame. Hence only two cars in ALMS, and only a bunch of privateers in FIA GT. It's uninteresting for the manufacturers. The real racing is in GT2, I'm glad Corvette racing has finally seen that:
Porsche ----GT3 RSR
Ferrari ---- F430 GT
BMW ----- M3 GTR
Corvette ---C6R
Aston ----Vantage
Dodge ----- Viper Comp Coupe
Ford ------ Ford GT
Panoz ----- ??????
4 of them are factory backed, all are production on production car chassy , and they are still almost as fast as the tube frame GT1 cars that have way more hp, bigger tires, bigger brakes and more aero.
GT2 is where road cars show how well they were designed for racing. GT1 is where people show how they can build a race car that looks like a road car. Any factory backed effort could dominate FIA GT. But even your A-game may not get it done in GT2, at least in ALMS.

Further News on their GT1 entry - It wont even have the same motor as the road car. It will be a V8 5.0L.
Guys - remember that Rattel is proposing completely different GT1 regs for FIA GT series in 2010.
The FIA GT rules are not the same as the ACO and IMSA rules.
There is discussion to try and make them as uniform as possible, but I wont hold my breath.
